Today we’d like to introduce you to Dana Richardson.
Hi Dana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began doing hair as a little girl playing with my dolls. I would take my mom’s hair products and load my dolls’ hair with them. Lol. I remember taking time during recess in elementary to play in some of my friend’s hair. As a young teenager, a few of my friends had me to style their hair. I then landed by first job at the age of 15 in a local salon as a result of a school project. A teacher referred me to her personal hairstylist and I became her shampoo girl. After high school, I attended Columbus Technical College to receive formal training and became a licensed Master Cosmetologist in 2001.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The journey has definitely been a roller-coaster. I’ve had to grow, mature, and really sharpen my skills (no pun intended) over the years. Some of the biggest challenges were working through the death of my son, battling PTSD as a result of his tragic death, being a sole proprietor, and in most recent years, maintaining a brick and mortar during this pandemic. I have made it priority to do things in the most honest and integral way I can, not just for my sake but for clients as well.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
