Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Hellman and Eric Chang.
Hellman-Chang was founded by lifelong friends, Daniel Hellman and Eric Chang. Over the past decade, the self-taught duo has lead the industry in defining new American Luxury Furnishings. Daniel Hellman studied Classical Guitar Performance at Northwestern University’s School of Music. His love of fine arts, from opera to architecture, did not stop there, as he transitioned into formal studio fabrication training under some of New York’s most well known custom furniture builders. In his tenure, he single-handedly produced a wide array of pieces for many of New York’s A-list. His finely honed skill ensures the quality, beauty, and endurance of every Hellman-Chang piece.
After helping startup a successful New York marketing agency, Eric Chang left and founded Hellman-Chang with life-long friend, Daniel Hellman. Together, they worked to grow their hobby into a budding business. Despite studying Finance and Marketing at NYU Stern’s School of Business, Chang explores his true passion for art and design by creating the lines of Hellman-Chang. Recognized as an artist his entire life, his innate skills in sketching, photography and bold design define the look and emotional themes of Hellman-Chang.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Late last year, Dan and Eric moved their business from a production facility in Brooklyn, NY to Dawsonville, Georgia. The move was long overdue as the company has been growing steadily since building furniture together in 2005. The company found that as sales grew the manufacturing capabilities within their current space became limited and they ultimately decided they needed more square footage to properly expand. The company estimates that the new location will allow the company to increase production capacity by eight to ten times.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Known for their sleek, timeless and unique designs, the Hellman-Chang line offers little compromise for craftsmanship and expansive bespoke capabilities for the Interior Design trade. After helping establish and embody the “Brooklyn Renaissance” in NYC with their bench-made collection, the company has expanded its production north of Atlanta into a new 32,000 square foot facility in Dawsonville, Georgia, where they are digging roots within the growing artisan American community. Hellman maintains his role as the Head of Operations and Technical Designer, as Chang continues to lead a design team as the Creative Director. Hellman-Chang is distributed nationwide through designer showrooms. They are introducing their first new collection since the move this Summer.
