Meet Daniela Guevara of DMT “Dani’s Mexican Taqueria”

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Guevara.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am from Tijuana, BC, Mexico but I was raised in Los Angeles. Started working in food and beverage at 15 years old I am now 27. Worked in all types of restaurants in Los Angeles and in the 4 years I’ve lived in Atlanta. Last working at Falafel Nation full time before March 2020.

Started a Mexican food pop up during the beginning of the pandemic around July 2020 with a partner who has since left. Pretty quickly we got a small buzz in the pop up community.

April 2021 My business partner moved on and I tried to rebrand on the fly, re did the menu, pretty much started from scratch and I’m still working on starting over and finding a more permanent location.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No. There is no smooth road in Atlanta. Starting over in April 2021 after having spent so much time since July 2020 branding was crazy and left me in a bad spot but there is always another day to make it better.

Financially, with no investor things get difficult at times. A lot of money is needed to fund a business and I knew that going In but going through the daily motions of it is very stressful.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about DMT “Dani’s Mexican Taqueria” ?
As of now I’m still a Mexican food pop-up and caterer. Being from Tijuana and LA I want to bring a different version, my version of Mexican food with hopes to develop it into more than street food. I serve mulitas, tacos de birria, and from time to time I have the opportunity to cook up Tampiquena plates and mole verde. My drive and the love I have for serving people great food that can connect us is what sets me apart, it’s not just a business or a pop up it’s more than that. I’m proud that I have been able to create relationships with people over MY food. I’m now serving out of Monday through Friday 12-8pm at CHOP SHOP 1366 Memorial Drive. Atlanta, GA .

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Large family parties for Christmas was always the best. Lots of tamales and gifts and laughs.
