Meet Daniela Staiculescu of Condesa Coffee in Old Fourth Ward and Downtown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Staiculescu.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Daniela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Both my husband Octavian Stan and I have Ph.D.’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Georgia Tech. We are also quite passionate about urbanism and sustainability. Condesa allowed us to be proactive in the transformation of our city into a more walkable, livable environment. We use Counter Culture Coffee and we try to source our ingredients from local, sustainable growers, so we are also privileged to educate and empower people to consumer ethically solid, high quality foods. Finally, our engineering degrees aligned very well with the geeky aspect of specialty coffee. We owe our success to our community: our amazing employees, the Counter Culture Coffee community, our neighbors, our fans and our supporters.

Has it been a smooth road?
Oh my, not smooth at all! Our biggest challenges were (and still are) our locations. In a car centric city, it is hard to understand why we take pride in being a walk to destination, but are sticking to our values, no matter how hard it gets sometimes. The other big challenge is maintaining a balance between investing into the best coffee, ingredients, equipment and education money can buy while keeping our prices to what the general public expects from a coffee shop.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Condesa Coffee – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a specialty coffee shop, which means we are focused on offering the coffee and tea menus at the absolute best levels of quality. So you can expect a perfect cappuccino every time you come to Condesa. We built the rest of the business around that, so our foods compliment the coffee and they are mostly made in house or purchased from top bakers like Proof Bakery, H&F Bread and Gem Bakery. At the Old Fourth Ward location, we have a beautiful patio, a great downtown view and a stellar cocktail menu (some coffee cocktails in there that we are particularly proud of), so you can experience the quiet and comfort of a European café in the heart of Atlanta. We are a great spot for a first date. The downtown location is in an award winning historic restoration in the heart of Sweet Auburn, and the Old Fourth Ward location is across from the Martin Luther King Historic Site, so we are an ideal stop for your visitors when you want to brag about Atlanta and its history.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The people! We absolutely love the people of this city, its hospitality and its historic heritage. We also love what the Atlanta Beltline and the Atlanta Streetcar started and we are looking forward to seeing those expanded and connecting our neighborhoods in a healthy, non-car-driven way. What we don’t like in Atlanta is the car addiction and the traffic, so we like to invite people to consider living a high quality life in the city, and our local politicians to enable the affordable, mixed used and mixed income neighborhoods that would make all our lives better and safer.
