Meet Danielle Canada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Canada.

Danielle, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Marietta native who’s been in the Atlanta area since kindergarten. I remember even back in elementary school that I wanted to work in media and ultimately be Oprah, not like Oprah—but be Oprah herself. When I realized that that wouldn’t work out, I switched gears and made the logical decision to be LIKE her. That lead me to Hampton University where I studied broadcast journalism at the Scripps Howard School of Journalism. I also did radio at the school station WHOV 88.1 FM for all four years and really got my hands dirty in my field. Everything I learned prepared me for where I am today.

I now consider myself a journalist, editor, and blogger with a specialty in entertainment news.

I’m the former Assistant Editor of HipHopWired.com and current Deputy Editor of Bossip.com. In addition to Bossip, I’ve contributed to JET Magazine and Uptown Magazine and been featured in The New York Times and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

My biggest accomplishment by far has been starring on Bossip on WE tv seasons 1 & 2 on WE tv. It’s a fun show where we recap news and interview celebrities. It’s really pushed me to do my research and be creative and it’s ultimately what I’ve always wanted to do. I’ve also been a guest on the Ed Lover podcast, the Dates & Mates podcast and the Ungentrified podcast. Since 2017 I’ve made appearances on Sister Circle TV for the “What’s Tea with Miss Quad” segment where I recap celebrity news. Additionally, I’ve appeared on WE tv’s Marriage Bootcamp, Divorce Court, and Couple’s Court.

Danielle provides commentary on Bossip’s “Bossip On WE tv” airing on WE tv. She’s been featured talent on both season 1 and season 2.

Has it been a smooth road?
Media has not been the smoothest road. Immediately after college, I started an internship in my field but it was unpaid. I worked my way up however from intern to a contributor and ultimately a salaried Assistant Editor. I was on top of the world and ecstatic to be doing something I went to school for—-then I was laid off and I thought my career in media was over. I was depressed and unsure about my future and I actually almost took a corporate job. Luckily I was able to bounce back. Media is my passion so I’m grateful to still be working in my field.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Dani Canada – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m Deputy Editor at Bossip.com which is a managerial position but I’m also one of the writers. I interview celebrities, attend junkets and yes, write some of those crazy headlines.

What sets me apart is my creativity and my drive. I’ll use thesauruses, local vernacular and pop culture phrases to make sure I tweak the headlines just right.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
What I like best about Atlanta is the culture of our city. At its heart, it’s still a wholesome southern city that loves to celebrate itself. Atlanta loves Atlanta and often times it feels like you’re part of a big family smothered and covered in hospitality. It’s also grown so much and it’s exciting to see.

I always say Atlanta’s the best city in the world and I mean it. Having been here since kindergarten, it’s really hard for me to imagine leaving.

What I like least about Atlanta is the traffic, it’s really true—WE’RE FULL!!!
