Hi Danielle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started Danielle Renée Beauty & Skincare during the 2020 pandemic. The idea came to be during my morning quiet time. The pandemic urged lots of people to be more intentional about self-care. I initially launched online. At the time, I was working full-time in the TV news industry. I started with beauty products and a skincare line that is gluten-free. A little later, I added more bath and self-care items like soy candles, handmade soaps, body butters, and bath accessories.
As my business grew, I decided to open a storefront. In 2022, I left my 22-year news industry career to pursue entrepreneurship full-time. I continue to expand my products and services. I added a lash bar to the storefront. In April 2022, I started an online Tip of the Day, offering beauty, skin, and self-care tips every weekday.
I got to where I am by trusting God and using every skill He has given me. I make mistakes but try my best to learn from them.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I do feel like some things are a matter of being shown favor. And I also know what it feels like when success is in its infancy. In its infancy, success may look like only a few care about what I’m offering. In its infancy, success might be a couple of sales. In its infancy, success might reinvest its only profits back into the business. Success is hard in its infancy. That’s where I’m at.
We’ve been impressed with Danielle Renee Beauty, Bath, and Skin Care, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
If Bath and Body Works had a baby with Sephora, Danielle Renée might look like a toddler version of that love child. I specialize in natural and gluten-free skincare, which is a big deal to people who are allergic to gluten. I work with chemists who formulate my skincare line. My soaps and body butters are handmade (with love). I’m proud to support several women-owned businesses by offering their brands inside my store. The quality of products, fast shipping, and customer service are so important when I shop, so I put lots of effort into those things for my customers. Building relationships is key. I listen to my customers and consider what they want most when I expand my products.
What makes you happy?
In regards to business, I feel so much joy when someone brings their smiling self in my store saying, “Look at my skin! It’s working!”. Helping people build confidence because they feel better about their appearance makes me happy. Writing my blogs makes me happy. When I put together the Tips of the Day, I feel like I’m blessing my followers with free information that they can really use. When people message me saying they love the content, I really appreciate it because I put those tips together with love. The holiday shopping season makes me really happy.
Personally, my relationships with God, family and friends make me happy. My tribe gets me and loves me, and I’m blessed by that. Sometimes, saying no makes me happy. Traveling and experiencing different cultures makes me happy. Uninterrupted Sunday naps make me happy.
