Today we’d like to introduce you to D’Anna Chambers.
D’Anna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Everyday I have to pat myself on the back for this life that I have created for myself and I am so thankful for it! The journey hasn’t been easy but it was worth it. Growing up in Atlanta provided a lot of opportunity when it came to film, television, modeling and entertainment. 2006 was the highlight of my modeling career! By this point, I was being represented by an agency, I’d shot with Jet Magazine and was working on set with stars like Jagged Edge and the Black Eyed Peas. But then it hit me like a ton of bricks, summer was over, college was starting and there would be no movie sets or music videos where I’d chosen to go to college in Columbus, GA. This is where I met celebrity MUA Corliss Kay. She’d been traveling to Columbus to work on set for Tyler Perry Studios at the time. I’d expressed to her that I wanted to grow behind the scenes as I knew looks could fade and my mark in the modeling industry would diminish for the next new young face. So she took me under her wing and I launched my beauty business right away in 2009. Since 2009 my business has grown from providing makeup services to now importing and selling beauty products from SE Asia.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Growing up my father was military and my mom was Buddhist, a strict set of parents! To them, becoming a model or makeup artist are both unrealistic and not secure jobs. They never gave me a hard time about it but I never felt like my parents were proud of the path I’d chosen. Ten years into my relationship, I was a struggling artist. I knew how to hustle and make money bartending, serving, doing makeup, but I felt like I was just busting my butt for nothing by 25. I felt as though all of my peers had cookie cut careers and their lives were figured out. I’d gone to college like I thought I was supposed to but this piece of paper was doing nothing for my soul. I was craving something deeper than just finding a job and punching a clock. I really wanted to be a makeup artist and I felt like a joke. It wasn’t until 30 that I saw major growth in my career. I put everything I had into my business because I had nothing left in me. 15 years of waiting tables, I was tired!
Please tell us about Makeup & Beauty by D’Anna LLC.
My business originally started with providing makeup and beauty services such as makeup application and body waxing. I’m most known for before and after transformations. I was highlighted in essence magazine‘s “top 100 makeup artists before and after transformations”. I’m most proud of growth. I now import and sell seven different products to help women with diet, weight loss, health and More. I’ve grown from just being a makeup artist to a beauty/life coach/consultant!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have traveled more in my 20s because there’s just so much to see and do on this beautiful earth!
