Daphne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
For as long as I can remember, I wanted a boutique where women could come in to celebrate themselves, feel comfortable and feel beautiful. When I became serious about pursuing my dream, I talked to family, friends and colleagues about what it may require for me accomplish this. In 2009, I was presented the opportunity to purchase a long standing bridal & formal boutique called Jenie’s Bridals & Formals. After many discussions with the owner of that store, I purchased that business. Although I began in the original space of the former boutique, I later transitioned into a new space that was fitting of my vision and had the ability to set the space to my liking. Becoming a member of the Village on 13th community was invaluable having neighboring local small businesses providing comfortable settings to serve our community. Daphne’s Bridal Boutique offers wedding gowns and bridal accessories along with bridesmaids, mothers, flower girl and prom dresses. We can outfit the entire wedding party, including guests and tuxedo rentals, as we aim to bring every wedding dream to life!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. For one, the stark reality that as a small business owner, there is no up-line, you are the up-line. Everything ultimately rests on you so I tried to identify my skills and get help in areas where I am not as strong. Keeping everything balanced without being stressed has definitely been a challenge. Another challenge has been finding and hiring the right team members that will embrace and support the vision of the business.

Daphne’s Bridal Boutique offers wedding gowns and bridal accessories along with bridesmaids, mothers, flower girl and prom dresses. We can outfit the entire wedding party, including guests and tuxedo rentals, as we aim to bring every wedding dream to life! We partner with our customers to help them achieve their vision for their wedding or other special occasion which is often a first time/one time experience. We provide a comfortable, warm, relaxed and fun environment to help our customers make the selections that work best for them. Wedding planning can be stressful. We want the memories of finding their gown to be treasured for years to come. I am most proud of celebrating ten years in business this year.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have sought HR professionals to help build my team, made different inventory decisions, sought the help of other experts earlier in the process.
