Today we’d like to introduce you to DaQuan Beck.

DaQuan Beck

DaQuan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Brooklyn, NY and came to Atlanta when I was young. Raised in Lithonia, GA with one older sister and two younger brothers. I have always loved listening to the radio on the way to school more specifically V103 and Steve Harvey Show. After high school, I attended a culinary school in Miami for marketing and soon realized that marketing was not my true passion. One day I became so glued to YouTube and came across The Breakfast Club radio show and realized that that is what I wanted to do. I loved the idea of radio because you could be seen and not heard, which described me because I was the person that had the ideas but necessarily didn’t want to lead it. I told myself I would love to get paid to just talk to my favorite celebrities and make money. I then began looking for schools that matched my career path, and I knew I wanted to go to an HBCU I came across Tennessee State University, which had a student-led Radio station, WTST the Blaze, and a communications department that fit me, and I worked all summer to get money for tuition and attended in the fall of 2013. I had my own show called Flexin and Finessin as a freshman with three other co-hosts and then transitioned to having one of the lead morning shows “The Morning Wood” my sophomore year, which was one of the most successful shows on campus, bringing in all kinds of celebrities.

After college, I didn’t really know where to continue my career as I did interned for a radio station my senior year of college, but the experience was not pleasant, so I was turned off and in motivated trying to peruse media. I worked for a few years after I graduated in 2018, starting my own podcast, “A Notorious Podcast” interviewing local artists and just having conversations with my friend group, constantly reinventing how I do media. The format I had didn’t stick, and then I became even more unmotivated. One day in 2022, a friend’s mother contacted me and said that a TV company was filming a show and needed media to interview the cast. Me not having a platform I ended up setting up the interviews with a host on a new radio station in Nashville Called Streetz 99.3, which was a hip hop station. After that, I realized that I knew the host from school Christine B and she helped me get my own show on the radio station called Untitled Radio. From there, everything took off and now in just eight months of me being on the radio I have been interviewing big-name celebrities and attending events in Atlanta, Nashville, and New York for media coverage. Now I have an established radio show on Streetz 99.3 called “Untitled Radio” with one of my best friends Wave Parker and haven’t looked back since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth ride. I became unmotivated and confused at a point in my career path just due to how fast media changes constantly. One struggle was finding my place and trying to adapt and also trying to find a core audience that cares about what I am talking about on my show.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Radio host/ Media personality currently with a show in Streetz 99.3 called “Untitled Radio” which is a show that focuses on independent artists trying to find their way in the industry. I provide a platform for the artist that feels like no one will pay attention to them and give them a voice and a chance to showcase their talent. I am most proud of my daughter Brooklyn who motivated me daily to keep pushing in this industry because I know if I do not grind right now for her, then she won’t have certain opportunities that I did not have. She is my reason why. What sets me apart from others is the fact that even if you tell me now I will continue to Lee persistent and find my way in that same door one person told me I could not enter. There is always other avenues and if you stop at the first No then I don’t know how you will find success.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
The person who deserves the most credit is my Nana. She is literally my world. I tell her everything, and even tho she doesn’t know what exactly I do she knows that it’s big because she hears the excitement in my voice. In addition my daughter who I have to set an example for and my daughter’s mother who holds her down while I am out doing business and building my career for our daughter’s future. My sister is another big motivation for me as well she is always excited to hear what her little brother is doing. My Bestfriend Shaheed literally told me this is what I am great at and I should never give up on my passion. Also, I have to say my whole Streetz 99.3 team because they have been welcoming, and we don’t compete together; we motivate each other, and that is the perfect safe space for me in this industry
