Today we’d like to introduce you to Darius Lewis.
Hi Darius, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am originally from Chicago Illinois by way of Louisiana. I live there for 20 years worked in oil and gas industry for 15 years and in 2022 of July. I moved to Atlanta Georgia with my cousin and I had a handyman company called Lewis and Son handyman services so that’s what I was doing when I got here. December 2023 is when my trajectory changed. I was going to a place called Euro Atl in Atlanta going to watch poetry on Wednesday nights and was joking with the DJs and the MC‘s that hosted the portrait night and they decided like you come up here and do stand up and I said I don’t do stand up and they said hey you’re funny and I said OK so came home with my first jokes and went back and perform on the following week and I was pretty good so I kept doing it. I started taking entertainment classes. I’m acting classes and realize I really love Acting more than anything so I use the Comedy as a gateway to give me into Acting went to active Nick Contis Acting school for professionals in Buckhead then I transfer to Dwayne Boyd and Buckhead and did my hair shots. Go on Actors Access submitted head shots booked roles got some Lee roles commercials and then I started making my own content. I had to ski to go viral. You know I started doing more Comedy doing more of my own stuff with my iPhone and some friends and coming over the concept so just shooting it doing a lot of improv so I was coming on my year of doing a stand-up and Acting and I only gave it a year so I said in December 20 23 if it’s not looking good in at December 2024 I’m gonna just give it up and so by December 24 ran around and I was doing pretty good and that’s when I started a production company called Bright frame LLC and write a show called shop shit SHYTS Instagram and YouTube so we’re doing a relaunch and it’s gonna be great. I got a couple more projects. I’ve have. I’ve written up, but I’m just waiting now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I mean, the road has been bumpy and smooth. The challenges are getting people to work and take this Acting thing really seriously you know people lie people don’t show up. It’s just frustrating a little bit but I love you so much. I just keep shooting when people don’t show up, I’ll be the only one in there and I’m just kidding. I’ll shoot it. I’ll shoot by myself. You know I did another challenge is bringing a building a team and have them believe in your dream and all you offering is IMDb credits and a meal because I can’t pay anybody right now but you know I’m offering Payment on the back end so that’s not a challenge trying to get people to work for you for free and promised them that this show is gonna be a hit
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a licensed residential contractor and I will manage a maintenance of a maintenance supervisor at an apartment complex a mentor to as well and I’m a mental health advocate
