Today we’d like to introduce you to Darlene Felix.
Darlene, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I attended Queens Vocational and Technical HS in NYC where I choose to major in Cosmetology. When I chose Cosmetology, I never thought it would become my passion or my career. Migrating from Haiti to NYC at the age of eight and finding where I belonged in this new world I was thrown into, I struggled to learn the language. Once I gained my footing and confidence, the sky was the limit. I fell in love with Cosmetology and never looked back. Never wavering, only evolving, consistently working on bettering my craft. Serving my clients with the highest level of customer service was and is my top priority.
In 2013, I decided to take a leap of faith and create this private oasis where my clients can come kick off their shoes, relax their feet, let their hair down (literally) and enjoy the one-on-one experience of their hair getting optimal care. My clients know that when they walk through my door, they can without a shadow of doubt leave behind the hustle and bustle of their busy and often, chaotic, lives. Whether enjoying a warm cup of coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or winding down with a glass of wine, they know they have me all to themselves and at their service. I am very blessed and I live to share that blessing through my craft. Not many people can say they wake up everyday anticipating going to work. I am truly honored and proud to say I genuinely love my career.
Has it been a smooth road?
The field of Cosmetology is never an easy road. Whether you decide to run a multi-chair salon or work in someone else’s salon, there will be challenges. My struggle was finding a place that had the same concept that I believed in. Which is creating an environment where clients can feel at ease and enjoy the personalized care. The struggle to find that perfect fit was my motivation to create my own space, with my vision and my ideas. I’m very grateful for the occasional bumps in the road that served as fuel to be where needed to be.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Laplace – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
LaPlace… Where Healthy Hair Is A Lifestyle!
LaPlace is a private hair studio, providing hair styling services in a private, relaxed setting with a single chair and myself as the sole stylist and master cosmetologist. Specializing in natural hair care, color, cut, and fully educating my clients on how to maintain their glorious hair when not seeing me. Whether you are looking to put your hair away in a protective style or finding fun and creative things to do with your hair Laplace is the place for you.
I believe that being the best hair care provider requires paying great attention to detail, assuring clients will be treated with the utmost discretion, and above all having a great time!
I wanted to create an intimate space in Henry County for escaping the world, sharing great stories, and transforming hair. After all, delivering great work is easier when the client is having fun.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I believe that Atlanta is the place where you can find a market for whatever business you are running. Atlanta is a place with such an entrepreneurial spirit it’s hard not to jump with both feet in. Moving here from New York it was really hard for me to adjust in the beginning coming from such a diverse and fast-paced environment. Things moved a bit slow here and it seemed that you had to know the right people in order to advance. Almost 15 years later I can truly say I love it here. While I still moved at a much slower pace than I am accustomed to, I have been able to make some amazing connections and meet some great people. The only downside about being on the south side of Atlanta is the slow progression of diversity. We are getting there slowly but surely.

I love this!! I’m literallly in tears. I was there at the beginning of her cosmetology journey as we attended the same high school and program; while she was styling hair I was eating (inside joke but for real for real, I was eating)! She has styled my hair and I’ve always loved the results!! Laplace is exactly what she has described in the article, a place where you can truly let down you’re hair literally and figuratively. No gossiping and all that nonsense- just a relaxing good old time!! I love who Darlene has become!! She’s amazing inside and out!! I am blessed that she calls me sister!!
