Meet Darryl Padgett of Lit Ass Wings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Darryl Padgett.

Darryl, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Lit Ass Wings was never intended to be as big as it is today. Atlanta is the Chicken Wing Capital and I wanted something other than Hot Lemon Pepper Wings. I happened to have a bottle of Hennessy around me so I experimented and made my own Hennessy BBQ Wings. From there I posted it on my social media accounts, everyone wanted to try it.

At that point, it became simple supply and demand. About a month later I was able to connect with ASAP Ferg, then T.I’s Hustle Gang. 5 months into the business I was contacted by Ceaser Of Vh1’s Black Ink Crew. He said they were opening a Black Ink Atlanta and he wanted me to cater the grand opening events and that was my big break.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been far from smooth. Like all businesses, the biggest struggle is figuring out how to become profitable and how to become consistent enough to stay profitable.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Lit Ass Wings – what should we know?
Lit Ass Wings is home of the Alcohol Infused Wings, we have wings flavors such as; Hennessy BBQ, Sweet Chili Patron, Hawaiian Pineapple Ciroc, Henny Jerk, Honey Jack Daniels. & more. However, we are also known for having some of the best traditional wings flavors as well such as; Hot Lemon Pepper, Honey Butter Lemon Pepper, & our famous Smack Ya Grandmomma Fried Chicken Wings.

As a company, we’re most proud of everything just coming together. Lit Ass Wings has become that small business that everyone knows about. We had the opportunity to cater for Nas, Blac Youngsta, Hot 107.9, NFL Players, Olympic Medalist, TV Shows, we completed a 4 city Pop Up Kitchen Tour, and shipped sauce all over the country. We have also been voted Best Wings In Atlanta twice by “Be Originals, Atl Got Sauce” & by Atlanta’s “Slingin Wings Festival”.

Aside from having the best wings in the city…We always have “All Flat Wings” at no additional cost. That’s a big deal in Atlanta lol. But what really sets us apart is that fact that we’re still growing and our customers, clients, followers, are watching us grow from a baby business that went from two customers a week to a small business that catered for Nas, Ella Mai, Yandy, YFN Lucci…

But also big enough to compete in Wing Festival Events that include Wingstop, Wild Wing Cafe, JR Crickets and win.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My supporters deserve all the credit. If it wasn’t for them reposting my menus, referring me to others, or even posting their food pictures I wouldn’t continue to gain new customers.
