Meet Davia Rose Lassiter of The Lassiter Firm

Today we’d like to introduce you to Davia Rose Lassiter.

Davia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After receiving help with my resume from a friend more than 15 years ago, I became inspired to help others. I designed countless resumes for friends and family, at no cost, and they would find success in landing interviews and getting job offers.

In 2018, Dr. Chinasa Elue encouraged me to stop “donating” my talent and to launch a business. Her words: “The Lassiter Firm – doesn’t that have a nice ring to it?” I was admittedly a bit dismissive of the idea because I wanted to continue helping people. However, I re-evaluated the time and resources I was investing in already. I also thought about my conversation with Dr. Elue and determined that I needed to place more value on my myself.

On March 20, 2018, at my birthday dinner, I bought my domain. Dr. Elue was right there across the table from me. From there, I secured my LLC and launched a website and social media platforms. I have since been able to increase clientele, invest in more tools for my business for higher-quality output, and make plans to expand my brand.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Building a business while leading an already full life is challenging. However, I am fulfilled because I know that people’s lives are changing for the better through The Lassiter Firm. I work full-time as a marketing and communications director, attend school part-time at Georgia State (PhD program), a volunteer with several organizations, and maintain a social life with friends and family. It’s definitely a lot to balance. Also, I am still learning about the back end of the business: Taxes, expenses, finance, licenses, etc. but it is a worthwhile journey.

It is important that I provide not only high-quality products but also superior customer service. Therefore, I have recently revised my service offerings by focusing solely on resumes, cover letters, and LinkedIn. By scaling back on my services, I am able to streamline my operations and allocate more time to these specific items. I have had to be honest with myself about my own limitations and have since hired contractors to provide support on projects as well.

In addition to the product side, marketing The Lassiter Firm is another job in itself. Fortunately, most of my business comes from word-of-mouth recommendations, and I promote my brand via social media. I know firsthand the time and effort it takes to build, maintain, and sustain a social media presence, so I am constantly evaluating my online presence and gauging which content is the most effective.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Lassiter Firm, LLC, is committed to helping individuals advance their excellence. We provide career services in the form of a resume, cover letter, and/or LinkedIn development and design. There are many high-quality candidates whose documents do not align with their professional repertoire. That’s where The Lassiter Firm comes in. We connect with clients, discuss their goals, assess their documents, and develop a unique brand in which their qualities and value are on display.

It is extremely fulfilling as a business owner to have clients not only in love with their new documents but also to learn that they were about to secure the job interview. My professional experience also includes talent management, so I am able to utilize that knowledge in my business, as well as my creativity and design acumen, to develop a winning resume, cover letter and/or LinkedIn profile for my valued customers. The Lassiter Firm uses originality and innovation to propel our clients’ professional opportunities. We talk with our customers in order to get a complete understanding of their goals and we incorporate that into our work.

What were you like growing up?
I was a very shy but creative child. I have always loved to read and write and thought I would be a teacher. However, after learning a new word – journalism – I decided to pursue that career so that I could create magazines for little black girls since the ones I read did not have that type of representation. I excelled in school because I love to learn. As I navigate through my PhD program, I am looking forward to providing leadership in an academic setting.

I also uncovered my passions via extracurricular activities. I discovered my competitive edge when I joined an intramural softball team in junior high; I eventually played varsity in high school. I worked on my first publication as a second-grader and have yet to break that streak: I have been on a publication staff, usually ascending to the title of editor, for 30 years straight. Representation and diversity will always be important to me, and I strive to reflect this in the publications of which I have been at the helm.

I also love community service and thrive off helping others. I first volunteered as Brownie Girl Scout and have since served as a Scout leader. I mentor countless young people, ranging from six years of age to young adults. I also serve my community through the Rho Zeta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., which is based in Cobb County. So, as you can see, my childhood interests have definitely played a significant role in my life.
