Today we’d like to introduce you to David Campbell.
David, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a realtor now going on three years. Prior to being a realtor, I was working as a telecommunications manager in a typical corporate space. I had wanted to pursue real estate since I graduated high school in 2006. At that time the market was beginning to take a dive and it just wasn’t a great time to be stepping into the real estate world. I got my first corporate job in banking and after that I got stuck in my day to day existence not really following through on my passion. Working corporate paid the bills and while I always wanted to do real estate, I knew that it would be almost impossible to quit my job cold turkey. My job positions always took up so much of my time creating yet another road block in reaching for my dreams. Well in 2017 I was offered the opportunity to step down out of my management role and into a position that would allow me to go to Real Estate school in the evenings and transition into a new career. I stepped out on faith, took the new job opportunity and ten weeks later I was a licensed Realtor. In less than two months I secured my first deal with a client where I was literally thrown to the wolves listing their home for sale as well as helping them transition into a new place of residence. Since then I have been blessed to stay busy and consistent. The majority of my business comes from staying active and engaging on my social media platforms. My best friends and family are my biggest supporters and they have been here cheering me on and helping to support my business along the way. I genuinely love what I do and especially helping people of color become homeowners.
Has it been a smooth road?
I will say I have been blessed to stay pretty busy in this industry and for things to move pretty smoothly for me. I have seen many new agents come in and not have a deal close for months or a year. With that I also say nothing worth having comes easy. I have had times of doubt but I think that comes along with starting any new venture. One of the biggest struggles is being a Black man in an industry dominated by White people. My colleagues and I (P.O.C’s) have to work so much harder and are often times looked over by potential clients because of the color of our skin. It can be so easy getting wrapped up in comparing your business to others but you just have to remind yourself to stay in your own lane. What is meant for you will be for you.
Tell us more about the business.
Nestegg Realty is all about customer service. When I chat with potential new clients the #1 complaint in our industry is lack of communication. I pride myself in always being available. I continuously study and analyze the market so that I always have a finger on pulse of the industry. I feel it is extremely important to get a sense for what my clients need in their home purchase. Nestegg Realty is not a one stop shop after we reach the closing table. I genuinely enjoy keeping up with my clients, some of whom have become good friends. I reach out during holidays, birthdays, or just that random Wednesday when they cross my mind. My clients know that they are always my number 1 priority and that whatever they need I will provide!
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see huge growth for the city of Atlanta. Currently we are seeing 4-5% equity growth year over year and I’m not projecting a slow down in the near future. With major projects popping up such as six West in Historic College Park and the revitalization at the Mall at West End I see Atlanta being a city that provides something for everybody. Even throughout the pandemic we have seen home values remain strong and inventory currently is very low. I encourage all my clients to look at their purchases for now but also for the future especially if they are not purchasing their forever home.
