Today we’d like to introduce you to David Cone.
Thanks for sharing your story with us David. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was raised in Statesboro, Ga. by two college professors, Carl & Diana Cone. A proclivity for football emerged during my childhood and continued into high school where I played quarterback and helped our team appear in three consecutive state championship appearances.
After graduating high school I shipped off to Ann Arbor where I attended the University of Michigan on a football scholarship. It was there I began developing a love for film and music and made several short films during our off seasons. Also, in 2009, I taught myself how to play guitar by watching youtube videos whenever we had downtime from practice.
Following my four-year football tenure at Michigan, I moved to Atlanta and pursued filmmaking and music more thoroughly. I made a plethora of short films, one of which screened at Universal Studios in Los Angeles. This opened the doors for me to produce and direct national campaigns for companies such as Adobe, Google, The PGA of America, Coca-Cola, Powerade, Bleacher Report, Ford, and the Atlanta Falcons.
During that transitional period in my life I was looking for opportunities to perform some of the songs I had written, so, in 2012, I played a small show at Smith’s Olde Bar. Since then I’ve written more than 200 songs and remained active in the local music scene. My first album, ‘Welcome Home,’ was released earlier this year to a sold-out crowd at Eddie’s Attic. Recording for my second album has already taken place at Blackbird Studio in Nashville and will be finished later this fall. I’ve been very fortunate to make a living producing stories I’m passionate about.
Whether I’m creating content for local business, directing national commercials, or playing music festivals around town… I’m constantly striving to make a positive impact on our community.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No road is smooth, especially when you’re trying to grow a small business in a competitive market. People make their decisions based on trust… so, once you’ve established a high level of competency, and build trust by completing the tasks they require, you’ll be rewarded with new opportunities.
And, often times, playing it safe is the riskiest play of all, because you’ll end up looking back asking, “what if…”
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about David Cone Films – what should we know?
We aim to empower brands through visual storytelling. From television content to website videos, to social media vignettes…we produce carefully-crafted stories specifically tailored to the needs of our partners.
Your business is unique, and so is your story… let us help you tell it!
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I could spend the rest of the year crediting the supportive individuals in my life who’ve helped me reach this point, but it all starts with my family. I couldn’t have achieved this early level of success without the help of my parents, Carl & Diana, my two younger brothers, Aaron & Todd, and my girlfriend, Darbi Lou Todd.
To the countless coaches, teammates, mentors, fans, supporters, and family members I say, “thank you.” Without your assistance I wouldn’t be the person I am today… and for that, I’m forever grateful.
