Meet Davie Hudgins of Jamison Shaw Hairdressers in Buckhead

Today we’d like to introduce you to Davie Hudgins.

Davie, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m Davie (yes, that’s my real name) I’m originally from Thomaston, Ga a small town just south of Atlanta. I never really knew what I wanted to do after high but beauty school was only a year-long so I figure what the heck. I moved to Baton Rouge the summer of 2013 to attend Aveda institute of Cosmetology. I loved my life in Baton Rouge, but after four years, I decided to come back to Georgia. Currently, I live and work in Atlanta as a hairstylist at Jamison Shaw Hairdressers in Buckhead. I’m so thankful to work in the beauty industry, where it allows me to be myself and make people feel beautiful every single day!

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road.. no. Although I can’t complain about very much about my journey. I was however, expelled from cosmetology school with only three week left for being a little smart butt to an educator. I had to wait six months, explain my story to board of Aveda institute, and write an essay of apology. Only to go back for three weeks. It’s a funny story now but as an 18-year-old living 8 hours away, it was not fun.

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I’m currently an associate hairstylist at Jamison Shaw Hairdressers. I specialize in French cutting and highlighting with foils and French balayage methods. My favorite looks to create are blonde bobs and men’s cutting techniques. I’m known for (my fabulous skills.. duhh) my relationships with my clients. I love the time I get to spend on just making them feel better about themselves. I feel like anyone can learn how to do hair, but you can’t teach a feeling. I’m most proud of the loyalty of my clients! I’ve had clients come all the way to Atlanta not only from my home town but from Baton Rouge as well. It’s just amazing to see others appreciate my skill set and my dedication.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I’m from about 2 hours south of Atlanta so I’ve always been a fan of the city. Moving away made me have more appreciation for my home state! I, of course, love the Atlanta Falcons (rise up). I mostly enjoy that there is always something to do, no matter the day or time. It’s such a fun place to explore. Even though it can be very hot, I enjoy that we have four seasons a year! I feel like Atlanta could work in being a little more welcoming. I talk to a lot of clients who’ve had the same problem as I did when moving to Atlanta, not being able to find genuine, similar liking people to meet! It’s very hard as an adult to find your gang and no one wants to explore the city alone. Oh and the traffic. Duh
