Meet Davina Rillie of BossHive Productions in Douglasville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Davina Rillie.

Davina, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started off in Long Island, New York as a child and moved to Lawrenceville, GA at the age of 14. When I moved to Georgia, I went through many different phases. In a very short time, everyone pretty much gave up on me. At the age of 15, I was placed in a group home and labeled as an unruly child. At the end of my group home stay I was taken in by my God Mother when nobody else wanted me. By the time I was 19, I had two children. My oldest son was born with Down’s Syndrome and a heart problem that needed correction before he turned 12 months old. I married into an abusive relationship and suffered domestic violence while my oldest son also suffered from myelogenous leukemia between the ages of 2-4. I ran from domestic violence and had to move around a lot. I lost everything I had, even my kids due to my demise. I suffered from drug abuse as well. I did what I had to do to survive and ended up in the streets in order to stay afloat. I basically tired myself out until everything I went through caught up to me internally.

June 2, 2017 I suffered from an aortic aneurysm that caused me to have a major heart surgery in order to save my life. I pulled through to the doctor’s surprise and began recovery. I honestly didn’t want to be here anymore after the recovery because my life has been so hard for me. I wanted to give up. I realized that God has complete control over my life and decided to write a book about my life called Broken Heart: This Ain’t a Love Story. I decided I would help others through their tough journey and let other women know they are not alone. My publishing deal didn’t work out and decided I would start my own publishing company Called BossHive Publications after starting my own podcast called BossHive Radio. So I made it a business, BossHive Productions.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth road? I don’t know what that is. I have had major blocks, bumps and bruises. Just about everything most people fear, I faced head-on. I mean I went through some things most people don’t even want to speak on. I even suffered from depression at times. Never really had support from the people I love the most and was left to figure it out on my own.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the BossHive Productions story. Tell us more about the business.
I have a few businesses and working on more projects now. Bosshive Productions is the umbrella for BossHive Radio and BossHive Publications. I started BossHive Radio back in March 2020. I’ve always been into entertainment and street news, I admire talk show hosts like Wendy Williams and others who have their own journey and testimonies to tell. Along with that is music. I love music and decided to help independent music artists flourish and break their music out and interview on BossHive Radio. I also promote authors as well. There is a beautiful community of black published and non-published authors that have many stories to tell so I support by interviewing and putting out their work out there. I am a big supporter for the underdog. Now BossHive Publications was started June 2, 2020. As I stated earlier, my book Broken Heart: This Ain’t a Love Story was published by someone else and things just didn’t work out and decided that my separation from that company was needed. In turn, I re-released my book under BossHive Publications. I figured I would help others express themselves through the art of writing. I now have two authors that have upcoming releases.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Good luck, bad luck. Well, I would like to say that I’m definitely blessed to even be alive. There is no such thing as luck. I realized that everything I’ve been through was meant to happen, good or bad. It led me to where I am now. I’ve always wanted to be able to help others and God gave me another chance at life to do so. Our lives are already written. The life and businesses I have are all blessings. No luck here.
