Meet Dawn Tyus of Girlfriend Move in South Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawn Tyus.

Dawn, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I love to start my story off with a quote by Abraham Maslow, “One can choose to go back toward safety or forward toward growth. Growth must be chosen, again and again, fear must be overcome again and again”. Being raised by a single parent in Griffin, Georgia this quote reminds me of how my mom taught my siblings and me to never succumb to fear or what was safe. She constantly preached that there is not growth in fear or being safe. I grew up as the baby girl of five, always being protected and sheltered by my older siblings. We lived in a community where everyone was family. We were taught the value of common courtesy and respect. It was instilled in me at an early age that I can become whatever I wanted to become, I had a voice, I deserved to succeed and my only hindering block was ME. If I chose not to excel that should be a personal decision and not because of others. I was raised to be independent yet respectful, helpful yet diligent, and love despite hate.

The value of education was a given in our home and striving for excellence was always the motto. Although my parents were never married my siblings and I were taught the power of collaboration and support through the parental relationship that my parents had. They worked as a team to ensure that we had what we needed and we attained the highest level of personal success.

I learned at an early age that there is POWER in helping others, working hard and learning from your mistakes. I learned that mistakes were not meant to hold you back but to push you forward. Life has its ups and downs; it’s just when you stay down that matters. Which means you aren’t growing or moving. I have always found pleasure in reading, journaling, writing short stories, and motivating others to release fear, MOVE towards Greatness and Activate Excellence. I am adamant about teaching others to turn their trials into triumphs.

Because of my desire to help and see others live a fulfilled life, I became a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Certified Life Coach AKA The Power Moves Coach. I am currently writing a book to teach others Power Moves to PowerUP and Win.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road but a rewarding road. Some of my struggles were not knowing how to say “no”, trying to be the all to everyone, understanding that although I love to help others, this is a business. Also, the limited marketing of myself.

Over the years I’ve had to learn that branding, staying true to my defined purpose, collaborating and networking with others are the keys to opening doors. in order for me to sustain and do what I love.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Girlfriend Move story. Tell us more about the business.
The name of my business is Girlfriend Move which is a boutique coaching/counseling practice. The uniqueness of my practice is that I’m not only able to work with individuals through coaching but I’m also licensed to diagnose and treat mental health issues. I’m most proud of the diversity of services that I’m able to offer such as coaching, counseling, motivational speaking, and professional development training.

Girlfriend Move specializes in working with women to move them from Pain to Purpose to being Powerful. We work with women who are independent and professional yet seeking more, women who desire to move forward yet they are stagnant, women who are living but unfulfilled, and women who are working but not living out their purpose.

Girlfriend Move empowers women to unleash the Power within, explore all of the possibilities and know that the Power to have what they want is waiting on them to MOVE! When women choose to work with me, I equip them with everything that they need to BE POWERFUL and MOVE to where they desire to be.

What sets me apart from others is my desire to partner with you and not tell you what you should be doing or should have done. I give 110% to each client so that they will not only have a successful experience but a lasting and powerful experience. We cry together, laugh together, pray together and succeed together.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Within the next 5-10 years, I see the coaching and counseling  industries continuously growing. I see technology being even more prevalent, and as times change and individuals seasons out ,the industry will continue to grow.

Dawn is a “Go GetHER” The power moves she makes stirs and provoke women to get up and be successful. Being raised in the same community I understand the drive one must have to rise above the opposition of not having a hand up. Dawn is a self motivator and initiator that looks to inspire, motivate, encourage, empower and celebrate women in their endeavors. I thank God for her and the gift he has given her to bless others!
