Meet Dawna Williamson of Alpharetta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dawna Williamson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been assisting families in various capacities for over 10 years. I started as an Administrative Assistant and Program Coordinator at the Alpharetta Adult Activity Center servicing seniors in the local community. Here, I discovered the importance of engagement and socialization for both the physical and emotional health of seniors. I then worked as a Community Relations Director assisting seniors and their families at Independent, Assisted Living and Memory Care communities in the local area. In this role, I developed the understanding of how this industry functions for seniors. Recently, I was assisting families within Hospice care before I came to Right at Home. This provided me with the insight regarding End-of-Life care and assistance.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, it has truly been a pleasure developing and growing within the Senior Industry. Sometimes, doubt can set in when you are challenged emotionally. It is a very humbling experience at times when you are seeing human frailties. It can tug at your heart when you lose a client, but it is truly an honor for a family to reach out and trust you with a loved one in a time of crisis.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I work with families who are facing care challenges for a loved one. My agency helps care for anyone age 18 and above. We provide companionship through end-of-life care and assistance. We pride ourselves on really matching a caregiver to a client’s needs-both physically and emotionally. We are providing a very intimate service, so we really want the right fit. Our caregivers provide care wherever the client is-home, hospital, senior community etc. In addition, I am a Certified Dementia Practitioner as well as serving on the Mission Committee for the American Parkinson’s Disease Association (APDA) helping to create and facilitate local support groups.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Compassion, Empathy, and Dedication are the most important characteristics for success in my field.
