Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammie Parks, Rachel, Anna and Jada Washington.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Our journey owning DayPaint started back in August 2020, when my three older sisters and I decided to partner up and create a business together. The stars seemingly aligned and everyone was at a point in their lives where it just felt right, so we made the decision to combine our skillsets to explore entrepreneurship.
We gravitated toward the painting industry because our dad was a painting contractor and we all grew up watching and (some of us) painting alongside him for many years. We observed many issues in the painting industry along the way and wanted to start a company that addressed those issues. We designed DayPaint with three objectives in mind:
1) Use color to improve the lives of our customers.
2) Rebuild the reputation of the painting industry.
3) Establish an exceptional workplace culture.
We all have very different backgrounds and expertise and we brought our unique experiences together to help shape our company.
Tammie’s background is in Accounting. She spent over a decade as a Controller for large companies around the country. She oversees Daypaint’s overall leadership, finances, legal affairs, and human resources.
Rachel is our muralist. She has a robust background as an artist and has many years of experience in photography, graphic imagining and illustration, painting, airbrushing, and many other mediums.
Anna worked as an apprentice to our father for over a decade to become an expert painter. She manages all in-field operations at DayPaint and helps homeowners navigate the process of transforming their homes.
I have a background in music performance and I am also a Georgia Army National Guard soldier. These experiences have taught me how to overcome and preempt challenges by breaking down complex problems and strategically implementing effective solutions. With DayPaint, I maintain and improve our systems and processes and implement our growth strategies.
We are all very passionate about business, entrepreneurship, learning, and solving problems. This journey has given us the opportunity to grow professionally and personally while also strengthening our connection as a family.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building a company from the ground up is not easy. If it were, I would venture to say we aren’t dreaming big enough and challenging ourselves.
Business and entrepreneurship were new for all of us except for our oldest sister, Tammie. We had to quickly overcome our knowledge gap so that we could actualize our vision for DayPaint which required a lot of time and effort. It can be stressful at times working those 18-hour days, sacrificing family time, and constantly pushing yourself to grow and be just a little bit better than yesterday. There have been moments when we would question ourselves if this is all worth it or if we should get “real jobs” as some people suggested. But we always came to the same conclusion in the end:
Nothing worth getting comes easy.
We always keep our ‘Why’ at the forefront of our minds and figure out how to navigate and overcome our challenges. Our struggle together has made us stronger, more creative, and more resilient. There is still a long road ahead, but each of us has our sleeves rolled up and we’re ready to embark on this adventure.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Since we opened our doors just a few short years ago, we’ve painted over 200 homes in the Metro Atlanta area and have a growing reputation in the community. We have a wonderful team of painters that love what they do. And we help transform our clients’ spaces and ultimately, their lives.
DayPaint offers interior and exterior painting and custom murals but we do more than just paint things. We’re assisting homeowners in creating a space that they love, are proud of, and are comfortable in. Having a beautiful environment can serve as the hub where you can create stronger bonds and memories with your family and friends.
When it comes to working with a contractor, DayPaint offers an experience that may be different from what many people are accustomed to. In order to deliver beautifully painted homes, we actively encourage cooperation and mutual trust with homeowners. We know there is a better way to give customers the quality they desire while also educating them, being open and honest with them about costs, and providing an exceptional overall experience.
How do you think about happiness?
Creating something that we’re proud of and making other people happy with our art and creations. Also, spending time with friends and family. Life is too short not to live it fully and unapologetically.
