Meet Melissa Dyer of DDZ Creations in Covington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Dyer.

Melissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I currently reside in Covington, GA but is originally from Collins, GA a small town in South Georgia. I was a state employee for almost 20 years and even though I enjoyed servicing the community I still had a feeling of emptiness inside. In January 2018, I was so overwhelmed I decided to utilize the state services and went out on FLMA. I was already working part-time on creating shirts, hoodies, bags and etc. for customers in the afternoon when I got off work. Some nights I would be up to about 3 AM trying to get orders process and I didn’t mind because it was something I loved to do. In April 2018, I officially resigned from my job and began to pursue DDZ Creations full-time. Of course, I had a lot of people who talked about me behind my back but what they didn’t know was I had the most important person on my side and that was God. Business was going great and I couldn’t be happier doing something that I loved to do but wait every story must have a few obstacles to get pass.

On October 24, 2018, my life was thrown into a whirlwind. I would receive news that would change my life forever. My 10 years old son that was perfectly healthy based on his physical that he just had about a month out would be diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure, I just started renting a booth at the Flea Market to sell my products, my husband had just went through total knee replacement surgery in July and now I am hit with my baby needing dialysis 3 times a week and a kidney transplant to live. I immediately put a post on my page that DDZ Creations would be closed until further notice. I had to contact the flea market to close my booth, So if I am unable to print, I would lose income that is used to help support my family. At this point, I could have given up but God always has a ram in the bush.

In February 2019, I opened an online store using a drop ship company. Finally, I have some income circulating again even though it wasn’t as much as I was accustomed to it was a start. I was still able to do some shirts at home for my familiar clients which was a huge help. Here I am taking my son to dialysis three times a week to Tucker, GA and trying to do designs as often as I could. My body was beginning to get overworked and I needed a little more help, not to mention I had a senior in high school at the time(senior fees).

In May 2019, I was introduced to the foreign exchange market. I joined IM and was able to successfully substitute my income. I started studying the literature provided in the academy and started applying it. As of today, I am proud to say that my son had his kidney transplant on July 25, 2019 and I’m currently working my Printing business with DDZ Creations, I trade Foreign & CryptoCurrency, and work as a substitute teacher at my son’s school.

There is nothing too hard for God and if you trust him he will see you through when others doubt you.

Has it been a smooth road?
The challenges I face were having enough funds to keep my business up and running while trying to make sure my son was taking care of during his illness. Through it all, we never went without by the Grace of God.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the DDZ Creations story. Tell us more about the business.
The name of my company is DDZ Creations and the DDZ stands for Doing Designs with Zeal. I wanted my customers to know that when they entrust me with their design that it would be done with excellence at all times. DDZ all stands for my children’s name (Deondre’ Devonte’ Zion). I use that as a reminder to remind myself even though times may get hard I am doing this for them. The one thing that sets me apart from other companies is that I have afforded prices with quality work. I specialize mostly in T-shirts, hoodies and tote bags. I am proud that my business has been able to overcome obstacles and continue to move forward.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Within the next five years, I see DDZ Creations expanding to help my son Zion start his t-shirt brand.
