Today we’d like to introduce you to De Shawn Parker.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I came to Atlanta in 2009 for college at the art institute of Atlanta and graduated in 2014. I started playing the open mic circuit in south Atlanta in 2011 and started playing around the city to get my name out. I started playing under the “De Shawn Parker Radio Show” back in 2016, I wanted my love show to feel more like Radio show that the audience had to see and hear in person. I like to think of it as performance art that you had to be in person to experience it.
Please tell us about your art.
I started playing guitar when I was 15 back when I was in high school, I was always a visual artist before I became a Musician. I started writing poems when I was 14 and filter them into my songwriting to create my own sonic visual art out the songs I’m write. My method is writing from personal experiences, tell a story and write about a subject to give the listener a visual experience in the theater of the mind. My son come out as love songs with a concept cause love wins over all.
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become easier or harder for artists in recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help art and artists thrive?
With the internet being the main hub of content and information it actually put everyone in the same level and on one platform. You can be a big artist or a small one the Internet places everyone on the same level. Artist who use the Internet as a means to connect is important. I also believe in a string music and art scene that bring artist together will help other thrive and flourish in the modern era of art and music. Without these scenes the artist can’t connect….
