Meet Deanie and Gordon Brans of Marietta Reclamation now on Dixie Avenue in Smyrna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanie and Gordon Brans.

Deanie and Gordon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My husband Gordon, has had over 25 years in the construction industry and has been operating his own renovations company for the last 9 years, and my background is commercial finance, but we have always shared a strong love and appreciation for antiques and historical architecture. Although never anticipating owning a retail business, when an opportunity presented itself, we decided to lease and restore a forgotten space in one of the historical buildings on the Marietta square and our small reclamation business was born.

We enjoy having an “excuse” for our continuous search for unique architectural and industrial pieces. We only acquire true vintage/period pieces, and then thoughtfully clean/repair/restore for the end user. We work with homeowners, architects, builders and interior designers involved in decorating, renovations, new construction, and historic restoration. Not long ago, we were added as an Allied Professional with WHEN Development, a new venture whose purpose is to restore historic buildings in the Southeast. We have also provided prop rentals for several bridal and film industry clients.

Our new address is 2201 Dixie Avenue, Smyrna, and is situated off of Atlanta Road between Lockheed/Dobbins and Windy Hill Road. We are very excited about our new location, which is much more suitable for our business and provides great potential for our future plans.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Ours has certainly been a live-and-learn experience! That being said, there have definitely been some bumps in the road but that’s how you figure it out! Probably our biggest struggle has been attempting to balance the establishment of a new business with kids, other jobs, and LIFE. But taking a slow approach in order to determine our market and direction, and having fun with something we love to do, has been key. We really enjoy salvaging the past and bringing back to life interesting and beautiful parts of history and feel fortunate to be able to be a part of this movement.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Marietta Reclamation – what should we know?
We focus on reclaiming true vintage architectural and industrial pieces, and anything else fun we may find along the way! We have received positive feedback from numerous customers regarding our condition and display of inventory and environment, our appreciation and preservation of authentic unusual pieces, and our reasonable prices.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Atlanta and surrounding areas are booming, drawing an eclectic and desirable crowd, from the young professional to the accomplished empty nester. It has become a melting pot of talent, energy, ideas, and style that welcome new businesses and fresh perspectives making Atlanta a great spot for new ventures. We feel that our attention to hard-to-find architectural detail and eclectic decor can provide a great shopping experience for diverse audiences.
