Today we’d like to introduce you to Dee Avant.
Dee, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always been very creative. As a child, I was a great writer and artist. As I matured, I became more curious about different things artistically. I began as a hairstylist in 2012 and in 2015, I decided to experiment with crafts, including jewelry making, sketching and poetry. My business began in 2016, as I further explored my ability to create and design.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing is ever as simple as it looks. I faced many challenges when beginning my business. I taught myself to use my equipment. Trial and error took place often and I started out using an iron to press vinyl onto shirts until I was able to upgrade and purchase a heat press machine. I wasn’t business savvy either. I was spending more money than I was making and I was exhausted due to accepting orders that I had to fulfill independently. Being a one-woman show isn’t easy.
Please tell us about Dynamic Designz by Dee.
Dynamic Designz by Dee specializes in creating custom t-shirts and other apparel and custom logos for personal and business purposes. I recently began offering one-on-one t-shirt courses working with heat transfer vinyl and one of my favorite things to do is create business logos. I am most proud of my willingness to work with clients to meet their needs and provide great service. My business is set apart from others in that I am not a selfish business owner. I want to see everyone win. My business also offers very affordable website designing, social media setup and marketing strategies for small businesses.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I was an extremely timid child. My teachers would always question my mother whether or not I talked at home. To boost my confidence, my mom signed me up for chorus at a performing arts school and cheerleading. I excelled at both things, but cheerleading became my passion. This set me on the road to coaching and finding my purpose.
