Meet Deejay ThaDon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deejay ThaDon.

Deejay, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
It all started when I dropped out of college. I had lost my scholarship because I refused to cut off my dreads as part of the tradition. I was doing what I had to do to make money and realized that I needed to do something better with my life. My older brother started talking to me about getting into promoting. I started creating my group called Goddess of Atlanta. I picked up a camera my mama has around the house and started putting it to use. I was always a hustler and knew to get off your feet you had to do things for free in order to start getting paid for it, a lot of people not willing to make the sacrifice. We started doing photoshoot ( goddess of Atl ) and started to promote parties to build our network. Pretty soon, we were making a name for ourselves very quickly in the Atlanta scene. We were making money off of the team getting booked to host/model and off of promoting the parties. It was a tough road and a whole lot of hard work. Soon, I started getting calls from a lot of major promoters. Asking me to get on different parties around the city. This is when things got big. We started throwing our own parties now and parties hitting unbelievable 2,000+ numbers. We were growing rapidly. I then created KGOA which is Kings and Goddesses of Atlanta, KGOA entertainment. I had a board of directors and a team where we ran it like a real business. I had a lot of passionate individuals a part of the organization and they are like family. I took a break for a while to “sharpen the saw”, which is basically a saying from the book seven habits of highly effective people. Sharpening the saw, meaning that instead of just sawing at the tree all day, I am sharpening the saw to be more effective. Building the four domains of my life mental, spiritual, financial and emotional/social. Now I am ready to get back in the game and I am coming with a new wave called the Goddess Models. We are about to takeover the city by storm.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been hell on wheels but it has also been blessings on blessings. If someone was to tell you that there was an easy route to entrepreneurship, then they will be lying to you. Especially in the nightlife industry. There were a lot of blood, sweat and tears along this road. Things that molded me to be the man I am today. My brother losing his life is what hit me the hardest. You ever self like your soul has been physically ripped out heart? That’s what it FEELS like till this day but he is who motivates me every day. He is the one who started me down this track so I will never give up and always keep it pushing for greatness.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the KGOA & subsidiary Goddess Models story. Tell us more about the business.
At KGOA we specialize in nightlife at the moment. Having events at nightclubs across the city, soon to be the country. We also mentor Men and Women on financial literacy and business etiquette. We encourage diversity but we really push black-owned businesses and black empowerment especially. I am most proud of all the lives we have affected along the way and inspiration I have received from the amazing people that has been a part of the organization. I really love all of them, even if some haven’t spoken in a while. What sets us apart from others is the fact that we are a Black-owned business that not only aims to make good business decisions but to empower, to teach, to help and to unite.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has played little role in my life and business. The answer is God. God has been with me through it all and he is even here with me as I am typing this here. He has a great plan for my life and has pulled me out of situations that I questioned if I would be alive to this day. I owe it all to him and I will answer his blessing by blessing others after me and my family, pouring into the youth of the world. When it’s all over, he told me my brother will be waiting for me to open up the gates.
