Meet Della Mack of Mack’s Perspective in West Atlanta – Douglasville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Della Mack.

Della, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am originally from the small city of Walterboro, South Carolina, deep down in the country and I mean the “having only a Wal-Mart as the highlight” type country. Upon graduating from the University of South Carolina in 2014, I commissioned into the US Army. As a young leader transitioning into a new lifestyle, I initially struggled with finding a mentor and a community that was indulgent with understanding the challenges faced in the workplace as an officer, to be precise, a female officer. Coming straight out of college into a leadership position was a major transition that I methodically yet efficiently lead through my experiences. One of the things I learned upon my journey thus far, was that there are different sets of challenges women go through as supervisors, military or civilian, and to a certain extent, even more as women of color. Nevertheless, the Army has definitely empowered me to lead soldiers and train them with skills needed to survive in combat. So, in retrospect, I ultimately had to step up to the plate and really learn how to be an asset to the organization and be effective. The journey wasn’t always easy, but it was definitely rewarding, and it has really encouraged me to be who I am today. My experiences with different leaders and experienced personnel instilled a passion in me to help other women in management positions navigate diverse, strong personality organizations and truly show up.I became a Leadership Development Consultant and Career Strategist for women in new management positions right after graduating with my M.S. in Industrial-Organizational Psychology. In August of 2017, I founded Mack’s Perspective LLC, an online consulting company that helps women in new management positions smoothly transition into their careers and lead with poise. I felt I had a story to share, and I had a burning desire to teach the strategies I learned along the way and wrote a book that was published in November of 2018. The book, “Confident is She: A leadership guide for women of color to navigate the work environment with poise,” offers advice to become the subject matter expert in your field and tips to be an effective leader. In my opinion, women of color do not always feel like they have access to coaches, mentors, or a community before becoming a trailblazer and I felt this first hand as I worked to find my voice. I wanted to bridge the gap in this go-to guide for leadership development with premier insight to tackle obstacles faced by women who are brown, black, and tan in the work environment. Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say my military experience has helped me build character and I am still learning everyday how to become a better me. Initially, my biggest challenge was finding my voice as a woman in an environment filled with strong personalities. Ultimately, I learned to make it happen because just existing is never an option.

Shout out to my awesome support system and the mighty God I serve! My parents, my sister, my amazing fiancé, and my crew is lit. They were with me every step of the way. My confidence really increased showing executive presence when I recognized my value and knew what I brought to any organization. I stopped trying to prove that I was not the “stereotype” and focused on showing up as the expert I knew I could and wanted to be.

Mack’s Perspective – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Well, Mack’s Perspective LLC is an online consulting company that assists women with their career evolution into new executive position. I started the company inspired after experiencing how much time, stress and tears women face early on before figuring out how to be a real asset to their organization to the best of their abilities and beyond. I’ve been called the “Confidence Booster” because I focus on assisting women in understanding their value and owning their space once they are hired. What sets my company apart from others is that we assist women with administrative charisma in all 3 of the main transition periods: during the job hunt, after you get hired, and when you’re seeking career progression. We are well-rounded, but my signature service is “Woman, Own Your Space” helping new managers in Federal and State Government positions, establish and master managerial skills. What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My most proud moment has been dedicating the time to share the methods of excelling as a leader in my book, “Confident is She.” Whether you’re a woman of color holding a specific position or if you are simply assuming the responsibility of a leader, it can be challenging to own your role and do so with limited guidance. Many people will say “you should do this or that,” but few fully explain HOW to go about performing well. Confident is SHE was written to teach women of color just that, how to own your space and do so with poise.
