Meet Della Reeves of Del Marie in Douglasville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Della Reeves.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began modeling when I was 18, by the age of nineteen that came to a halt. I started having children. After putting aside my dreams to raise my children, I never thought I would ever model again. Two years ago a designer approached me and asked if I would like to model. I told him no because I thought I was too large to model. He assured me that I was a beautiful person and I should try it one day. So I went looking for casting calls for plus size modeling and came upon Queens with Curves casting and every since then, doors have been opening for me making my dreams come true.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road and some of the struggles were because of my size. A lot of designers make clothes to fit industry models. Some shows I have done I may only walk for one or two designers and the smaller models would have five to six designers. Sometimes it made me feel uncomfortable to be a plus size, then I would say to myself I am beautiful. I am ME. So when I would walk onto the stage, I would show everyone my confidence and that I am beautiful.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a Plus size model and I’ve been in business for two years now. I specialize in runway, print, body paint, and promotional modeling. I am known for my model pose techniques. I am proud that I can inspire other models of all sizes that dreams can come true. If you put your mind to it no matter what size you are, is what sets me apart from others is, I am ME.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I loved being photographed. I was a very active child and participated in several sports from elementary to high school like basketball, track, soccer, cheerleading, and school plays. After school, I participated in activities such as dance class, singing class. At the age, the age of 18 is when I began doing fashion shows and hair shows.

Wow! What an amazing, very impressive interview. It is so good to hear the personal story of local celebrities and their humble beginnings. This young lady is a stunning beauty I can’t wait to see her rip the runway. I really love the direction fashion is going, promoting plus size models. They are the more realistic everyday woman. Gone are the days of the bone thin models. It is so refreshing to see reality in print.

I know Della and have watched her progress through her modeling career over the past few years. She is beautiful, amazing and real. We need more plus sized models because they represent the “real” adult women. She represents that population beautifully.

Definitely an interesting story and looking forward to hearing more of it. I admire your hard work and effort you have put into your dreams and something you love to do. You don’t really find too many people that often that keep it consistent and stay dedicated like you do. You are most definitely one of a kind and should keep up all of the hard work you do. Oneday this will all pay off and you won’t regret any of it. Stay strong keep inspiring others with your legacy and stay beautiful just the way you are. I don’t care what they say about you, you will always be number 1 in my book. 💪🏿✊🏾 👑

I met this beautiful young lady in August of 2011. Since day one she has been a motivational, inspirational and go getter to those around her as well as for herself. When I tell you she goes above and beyond with anything that she’s affiliated with I mean just that. She’s a great mother and friend with so much drive.
I love the passion she has for her family, career and friendship. When I think of beauty and brains she definitely falls within that category.
