Today we’d like to introduce you to Dennice Hillard.
Dennice, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am from Prattville, Alabama. I graduated from Billingsley High School in 2004. I attended college at The University of Alabama, where I graduated with a bachelor’s of business administration with a concentration in accounting in 2007. I also received my Master’s in Tax Accounting degree from The University of Alabama in 2009.
After graduate school, I worked for the Alabama Department of Revenue as a tax specialist. I worked on many state and local tax issues. From there, I worked in the tax office at The University of Alabama as a tax analyst. I primarily worked on payroll taxes and fringe benefits. After working for The University of Alabama, my family and I relocated to middle Georgia, where I worked for a local accounting firm as a senior tax accountant. I enjoyed working with clients and handling tax matters. After working for that firm for two years, I decided it was time to finally own and operate my own firm.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Operating and owning my firm has had its challenges. It is rewarding to work for yourself, but it can also be overwhelming at times especially when everything rests on you. The biggest challenge that I have had is ensuring that my firm is compliant with required filings needed to operate.
