Meet Denzel Greene

Today we’d like to introduce you to Denzel Greene.

Denzel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My name is Denzel Greene, aka “ZELLYG” I’m from Raleigh, North Carolina and my main skill I do art wise is… paint. As a young child, I’ve always could draw; it started out as just drawing simple objects around the house, then I progressed it drawing some of my favorite cartoons. As time went on, I decided to elevate my talent to painting. I originally had this idea because I use to watch Tv show painters like Legendary Bob Ross, ever since then, I dreamed of doing canvas art.

When I was about the age of 7-9, my next door neighbor knew about me drawing and painting due to the exchange of conversation between her and my mother. So my mama surprised me one day coming home from school with a big $300 art kit, ranging from castel/oil crayons to watercolor paint. Boy, I was ecstatic!! I gave her a big hug (My neighbor). My mother seen how much I loved to paint, so she continued to buy me other supplies to stretch my creativity. There’s lots more to this story but I’ll leave it here.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
YES!!! There has, my biggest struggle right now as an artist is “Anatomy.” I want to start doing portraits but getting the correct shading and blending can be hard at times.

We’d love to hear more about your art.
Vaf Platform is mainly structured around street style abstract and pro-black/pop art. I sometimes like mixing these all together to make exaggerated forms of art. I always have people asking me what “VAF” stands for and it’s an abbreviation for “Visual Art Flow.” My mother helped me come up with the name because of how my style pops out at you in random sequences but it still keeps a cohesive flow. Very soon, I will start doing customized shoes, I have all the equipment I need right now, I’m just setting up everything.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
That’s a very interesting thought… the main thing I can say right off the top of my head is “socializing” I’m very social so it’s easy for me to get in contact with people and get reviews of my services. And I’m also patient, I feel like a lot of business owners in any Field forget how vital having the ability to wait is… even God stresses this in the Bible. All of the rushing is due to people comparing themselves to others… stay in your own lane! You’ll miss your turn looking at another car.
