Today we’d like to introduce you to Derica Davis.
Leizure Fitness was founded in 2016 by navy Veteran Derica Davis, During her tour overseas she entered a bout of depression from being homesick amongst several other stress factors that come with serving as a young woman in the military. Fitness is what helped Derica not cope, but tremendously decrease stress and depression. Derica’s passion for wellness has branched into providing convenient mobile wellness services that can reach thousands far and wide.
Derica believes in balancing communities by providing fitness classes, massage therapy and “leizure” events that bring neighbors together. In 2019 Derica founded Leizure Vets, a nonprofit organization that focuses on increasing self-love and mental health awareness in women military veterans and first responders. We plan to decrease depression, PTSD and other mental health issues stemming from their careers and the transition to civilian life by helping women attain self-value through our free massage, yoga, inspirational speaking, painting and mediation services.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road but when you’re doing something you love you don’t mind the obstacles. Marketing is different for what I do being that we’re mobile. So, with communities being the target market I’ve had to put in a lot of foot traffic and cold calls to get clients. I’ve gotten one yes for every 100 no’s it’s definitely not a fast process but eventually, you’ll make some traction.
Leizure Fitness / Leizure Vets – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a mobile wellness business that provides fitness classes, massage therapy, personal Training and social events for corporations and communities. We work with the top certified professionals who are the best at what they do and passionate about wellness. I am proud to provide a creative and flexible workplace for self-starters like myself. Wellness professionals are tired of working with gyms and studios who stifle they creativity and pay low percentages. I recognize this huge issue within the wellness industry and provide better opportunities for these professionals
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I was able to quit all of my part-time jobs just one year after I started promoting my business and began working solely for myself.
