Today we’d like to introduce you to Derin Rome.
Hi Derin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
It all started in April of my 8th Grade year, I had made a jean jacket in memorial of my Granddad’s passing to wear for his birthday. When I posted it to my Instagram, I received a few compliments but I never really thought anything of it until a couple of people asked me to design jackets for them. I had also sent it out to a few clothing designers whose pieces I liked and when I received positive comments from them is when I started to believe I could do something in the clothing industry. Throughout the summer leading to my 9th-grade year, I began making jeans and hoodies for myself because I didn’t have the opportunity or the money to go purchase the items I wanted. But at this time I never sat down and came up with a name for myself as a brand. July of that summer is when I came up with the official name for my first brand, “Misunderstood” and that is where I’d say my journey into the fashion world began.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In this industry, I feel like you aren’t guaranteed a smooth road until you reach a certain pinnacle with yourself and your brand. When I started this journey, I looked at it like it was the fastest way to full financial freedom. But as I spent more time doing this, I had to learn that there is never anything guaranteed in this field. Sometimes you won’t make sales on an item you thought was going to be the big break for you. You may not receive any feedback on an item you thought was really going to be the one. At the end of the day, it’s all about how you are able to bounce back from these bumps in the road and keep going.

Ranger Studios is an upcoming clothing brand that specializes in streetwear and minimalistic designer-style pieces. I first caught wind with the release of my “Pretty Girls Love Ranger’ hoodies and since then I have been gaining strong momentum. I’d say my creativity and ability to cater to all people and styles I come across separates me from others. As a brand, I am most proud of the support I receive from others. Having people come to me asking me when I will be dropping or just coming to me at random times in hopes to purchase an item really makes me want to keep going because I know that I have really solidified a place in the fashion world. I want readers to know that my brand is for literally everybody. I make pieces for everyone that sees it to feel like they would be happy and comfortable wearing it no matter what they do or their background.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I feel like most people don’t know that I have run a brand before. Although it was nowhere near as successful as Ranger Studios, the knowledge and experiences I had then shaped me and my business today. I’d never go back and restart without having my first business first because I know I’d be missing out on things that I wouldn’t be able to come across again.
