Meet Destanee Coleman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destanee Coleman.

Destanee, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am an actress in progress. I moved to Atlanta 2 years ago on my own to pursue my career in acting. I also am a professional dancer coming from Charlotte, North Carolina. I was on multiple dance teams and decided to bring my talents to Atlanta. Moving here has been one of the most humbling experiences for me, as I have struggled with being my own support system and making things happen on my own. Being a full-time mommy and trying to also keep your bills paid, while trying to perfect your craft, is all a process on its own. It’s not an easy process, but it is definitely worth it. I take each downfall as a lesson and continue to strive to be the best I can be. Being in the entertainment industry comes with a lot of rejection, and you have to pick yourself up and keep going. No matter how many times you will be told no, all you need is that one “yes” to get your foot in the door . 2 years ago I was not in the position I am in today , and I am so thankful I took that leap of faith to believe in myself and move somewhere on my own not knowing how great the outcome would be in the end . Moving to Atlanta has been the best decision I made, this is the new Black Hollywood. I can’t wait to show everyone my progression. I hope I can be an inspiration to anyone who is hesitant on taking that leap of faith. Your success is on the other side of your fear. Stay tuned!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been smooth at all, but I’ve been able to smooth out the bumps in the road with patience and prayer. I’ve struggled with almost becoming homeless, going to bed some nights without eating and not being able to keep up with bills which caused a lot of stress and depression, making me want to give up.

Last year I lost my father due to heart failure .Losing my dad was the most hardest thing I’ve ever dealt with and amongst everything I was already going through was breaking me down. Despite what I was going through ,I was able to overcome my pain and keep fighting for my success.I know that he is with me on this journey every step of the way !

What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I would consider myself and all-around artist as I have many talents such as photography which I will be starting a business soon, acting, dancing, modeling, and writing music. I love to create all around !

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
My optimism is most important to my success because I feel as if things may not go the way you want it to go at the time you want it to. But me being able to smile through all the bad and good, is what keeps me going and in good spirits. I never know what’s coming next, but I do know whatever it is, was meant for me.
