Destiny, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Well, my name is Dess Dior, aka Destiny. I was raised in Savannah GA, born in St. Louis MO, A lot of people used to know me as my IG name I’m gorgeous and being best friends with Jayda. I worked really hard on my brand because it didn’t sit well with me that I was living in someone’s shadow. So I started to rebrand and pursue my rap career, that is when I became Dess Dior. I stayed in the studio day and night networking, meeting new people. I worked with anyone who wanted to work with me to get my foot somewhat in the door.
Then I started to build my team to help me get closer to my goals. We sat down, made a calendar and a short term goal (best thing I could’ve done) and I executed. I never used to plan & organize; once I did that, everything started to make sense within my career, I got noticed as what I am (a rapper). More accomplishments, respect and more to go. It wasn’t easy at and I’m still working. But, my journey thus far is amazing. Hard work pays off.
Has it been a smooth road?
Most of my struggles were finding my wave and developing as an artist. A lot of people only want to help you to benefit, so I had to do a lot of things myself. But it made me respect the grind even more. Another thing, people on the internet are super mean, so sometimes I got discouraged with what I do.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I’m a rapper, I make hip hop music. I’m known for my rap videos I made when I was younger, my friendship and being a public figure. I’m most proud of my growth, in such little time I’ve came so far. Me performing at rolling loud was amazing. What sets me apart is, I’m unique! My sound, flow, versatility is different. I sound like no one.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I feel women finally getting the recognition they deserve. I see us taking over the industry in all aspects.
