Meet Devika Brij of Brij the Gap Consulting

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devika Brij.

Devika, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been blessed to work for some of the world’s largest companies including Sony Music Entertainment, Google and LinkedIn and high growth start-ups. I was able to quickly climb the corporate ladder from an entry-level, individual contributor to manager of my own teams while driving strategy that was shaping these companies. The upward trajectory was not proactively offered to me, especially in highly competitive environments. I had to change my thinking, tap into mentors and allies, invest in seminars and workshops, and learn how to proactively own and share my narrative to up-level my brand within these corporations. After a few years, I learned there was a method to the madness and created a framework that enabled me to be consistently promoted, acquire multiple opportunities and increase my salary 6X in six years. I started coaching my peers using this framework and helped them transform their careers into more meaningful and desirable positions. After seeing multiple success stories, I knew I had the secret sauce for helping professionals be more fulfilled in their professional lives, but I wanted to do something more meaningful with my passion and strategic ideas.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nearly two years ago, I quit my high salary, senior leader role and started Brij the Gap Consulting. Transitioning from the comfort of a corporate “9-5” to entrepreneurship has been the furthest thing from easy but keeping my focus on what I know my purpose on earth to be has been my motivation. When I see the success my clients are reaching in their careers that they did not think was possible, the difficult days I have as an entrepreneur makes it worth it for me.

As a professional of color, especially a woman of color, I clearly remember the challenges I faced in my career in both the entertainment and tech industry. My investment into people of color was something I took on as my personal responsibility. If I figured out how to successfully elevate myself, it was up to me to teach other people of color how to do the same. I’m doing that through BrandU, the other programs I’m currently building and partnering with organizations on how to better equip their diverse professionals to elevate their careers and retain talent. Learning and sharing our methods to success is how we move our communities forward.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Brij the Gap Consulting – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Brij the Gap Consulting helps professionals of color and women transform their professional vision into reality. I specialize in helping people of color and women create a 5-star professional brand, own and share their narrative, secure new opportunities, salary increases and create influence within their industries with the purpose of elevating their careers.

My online course, BrandU, is five weeks, live, online program that gives professionals of color the framework, coaching and community to achieve the career advancement they are striving for.

There are tons of career coaches in the market, but I’m proud of the fact that I have demonstrated success and accomplishments in my own career and dozens of others that adds to my credibility. Everything I coach on comes from years of trial and error, mentorship, investing in workshops, career coaches and seminars, etc. I’m investing everything I know into others so they don’t have to spend as much time and money elevating their careers. My business was birthed out of vision that came to me through prayer, and if God asked me to do something as crazy as leaving my successful job to build Brij the Gap Consulting, I know there is purpose all over it. I believe it’s my purpose in life to help people of color achieve fulfillment and elevation in their careers.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for Brij the Gap Consulting to further scale education, coaching and community globally. I’m strategically planning other ways I can serve professionals by sharing the knowledge I have on entrepreneurship and building a business online. I have plans to put together workshops and events for entrepreneurs and entertainment professionals on how to leverage LinkedIn, professional branding and online coaching to expand their businesses.

I’m a huge advocate of sharing my experiences and education to help others achieve their goals. What is the purpose of keeping success to ourselves? If we all commit to investing in others, imagine how our communities would thrive.
