Meet Devin Barbee

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Barbee.

Devin, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Growing up was an adventure for me I am the oldest of my siblings let’s just say there was never a dull moment? My family is loud and funny, so my sense of humor started very young. As a young girl, my mirror was my audience; I played like I was on TV all the time singing dancing and even modeling (yes I can sing). I guess you could say I was the “popular girl”, but I kept to myself, my circle was small and I still consider them to be my best friends still today. Telling jokes and dressing fly was my thing I always loved to put on a show and by the time I graduated high school I knew my next stop was Media Arts.

I have three sister and three brothers between my parents. My parents were every bit of perfect my mother was sassy beautiful smart and would throw down in the kitchen. I was blessed with two Fathers and let’s just say I am a Daddy’s girl without a doubt.

What made you start doing industry things and when did you start?
I loved to entertain, making people laugh and just enjoying the positive energy that was created when I spoke. Since I was nominated chatter box and the talk too much girl, I figured I could literally put my money where my mouth is and make it a career. In 2009 I got my first Hosting Job as a Diva Doll for underground performers and in 2011 I landed an opportunity as a writer with a local film company T and B Films. At that time I also attended Specs Howard School of Media and Broadcasting. Later in 2012, I got a big break by landing a freelance contract with “Hard Core Pawn shop” as a producer. And that when I decided to relocate to Atlanta Georgia were I became a radio personality on Pop Life Radio in 2014. In 2015 I joined IBNX Radio where I hosted the hit show Hot List with Barbee and The Pregame with Karrass Jordan. I am currently on Hot Noize Media.

Who were your greatest influences in the industry growing up and who influences you now?
LaLa Anthony was my influence I remember her on MTV and I followed her career watching her blossom and even today she is my top favorite. Oprah is my next favorite for the more than the obvious. I learned a lot from her then and still to this day.

What are your greatest goals?
My greatest goals is having my own show for two years consecutive years. Most recently I was crowned “Female Internet Radio Personality of the year” with the “Atlanta Hip Hop Awards”. I started my own business “BARBEE DOLL BEAUTY” I vendor and sell 3d mink lashes and the business is growing fast. It is a bright future for Barbee Doll Beauty; my message behind beauty products is redefining beauty, giving women that confidence to feel and look as beautiful as they want too. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder is my slogan.

What’s to be expected in the future from you?
I am currently working on multiple projects with Secret Society Magazine Hotnoize Media, and there is a strong possibility I will be on one of Atlanta’s hot Fm stations very soon. I also have a podcast I am doing with my boyfriend, he is currently in the industry a well.

What big events have you hosted if any and have you interviewed any headliners, if so, who?
Exclusive Interviews with Lorenze Tate “ Game of Silence” Growing up Hip Hop “ Shad Moss, Jermain Dupri, Regina Carter, Trey Songs “Album Launch party “Passion, Pain and pleasure. J Cole and Jerimah “ Backstage Covererage” Hard Core Pawn Shop, Reality TV “Leave it to Stevie Season 1, Karras Jordan, Atlanta Fashion week, Atlanta Black Power Awards, Sipping with the Girls, Timothy Richardson, Marcus Houston, Golden Brooks, Kyla Pratt, Blank Inc “Katt Tatt” and many more from radio to the red carpet.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My career has been nothing close to smooth from being a female in the industry alone is a challenge, Being a women is a beautiful thing, and I love every challenge that was thrown my way. Being attractive I was not taken serious often a lot of producers directors and other media talent would treat me like I was just a pretty face and not even consider my talents. I remember I just moved to Atlanta and I met a program director for a major radio station and he portrayed to be interested in my skills, he listened to a couple voiceovers I did and told me lets meet up and I can introduce you to some great people that would take me to the next level. When we met up, he simply wanted to take me on a date and didn’t even remember listening to my voice overs.

That’s one of many different situations but it was hard to be taken seriously. I am educated and very experienced in media and entertainment. It took me a lot longer to get to where I am because I chose the long road to success maintaining a high level of respect for myself. That’s why I do a lot with empowering women its important some women don’t have a voice or feel like they are alone. On a positive note, I have mastered being sexy with Clothes on. Being in the limelight has its ups and downs and showing too much skin seems to be trending but it does not have to be that way. Don’t get me wrong its nothing with being sexy but save some for the imagination.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Devin Barbee – what should we know?
I am a multimedia personality and a new business owner for a lash line “Barbee Doll Beauty” I am known for media, entertainment, and radio. I also am known for my style and fashion Hints the lashes everyone loved mine so why not start my own business, an influencer. I am happy with that title in addition to being a Public Figure. I go by Barbee and I am Known by “the real Barbee”, What sets me apart well Barbee is actually on my birth certificate and I am not just a pretty face I am talented I love to help others and also show them, love. It takes one person to make a change and that’s me. I want to change how women view and love themselves.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have to give credit to my manager and Boyfriend Dakari better known as Gyasi, he is my biggest supporter and is so humble and honest. A lot of people doubted us being able to be in a relationship and work together but when its meant to be hey, everything falls in place. Of course my family and friends the few I have lol, and of course my fans, those who know me and never met me.
