Today we’d like to introduce you to Devisty.
Hi Devisty, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a Kansas City, MO native-born Devin Lyons. I began my musical journey in 2010 as a rap artist with a group called “The Spacekiddz”. The group was famously known for our hit song “Hands Up Get Low”. The success of that same song and each individual artists’ passion for stardom, eventually later led to the demise of the group in 2015. In 2016, I began a career as a solo artist recording songs like “Mind Frame”, “Somebody To Smoke With”, “Somebody Else” and also my most recent single “Surfs Up”. I also co-wrote and produced music for other local artist. My style and dynamic ear for a good song, has allowed me to work with various artist and other producers such as “Pretty Boi Beats”, “K-Stylis,” “Brandoshis,” “Rocko Flamez, ”Mr.MakesBeatz,” & many more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My musical journey has had its ups and downs. One of the most challenging things I’ve faced as an independent artist was learning the business side of the music industry. As an artist, my passion is to create, so for me, learning the business side of things was overwhelming at first. Another challenge I faced early on in my career was getting over my fear of what people thought. I found myself filled with a lot of self-doubt and second-guessed myself a lot. Which prevented me from releasing a lot of music I recorded.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a singer and songwriter. I can also produce and engineer. I specialize in catchy melodies and creative wordplay. I am most proud of my new single “Surfs Up”, released on October 22, 2021. The first week of the new release my song reached 9,000 streams and I acquired 225 monthly listeners. I have another single that I’m very proud of coming out on November 19, 2021, and it’s called “Hustler”. This song was produced by Pretty Boi Beats and myself and will be streaming on all platforms. One thing I believe that sets me apart from others is my versatility. Although singing is my passion, I am also well-rounded in rapping and dancing.
