Today we’d like to introduce you to Dezzi Kamali.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I created characters to help me travel through life while growing up. Each one has a different taste in art, and they all live together in a studio in my head. That’s how I create my art, and that’s why my art is incredibly different from previous works of mine. I keep the train rolling on the tracks of doing more than what I’ve done before, and this train doesn’t stop for pickups. The energizer bunny couldn’t beat me even if his battery never died, haha! God created me to serve a purpose, and that purpose is to lead others in a positive direction, closer to him through visual and verbal communication. “Kamali” means “spiritual guide or protector.”
Please tell us about your art.
My art has a foundation, and that foundation is versatility. Versatility is the inspiration in everything that I create. I HAVE to show range in my work. Without range, there’s boredom and death. I don’t want that for myself. I want people to see all the small details, and all the hard work put into my craft. I want people to understand that I’m not a plain Jane artist from the east side; I’m a very inspirational being.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
My word for my audience is this: Success is defined as never being content in the expansion of knowledge. You should always want to improve in life. Improvement leads to strength and strength leads to power. Creativity and having passion for your art will help you climb that ladder to being successful. Time is very important for it is something that never waits, and it never comes back; it just keeps going and so should you. Keep climbing and keep bouncing off the ropes because the fight for being great is not over until you allow yourself to fall.
