Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Rose.
Diamond, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started doing hair when I was around 15 years old. I started by doing my own hair and teaching myself to braid. Then I started to do my sister’s hair and friends as well. It was just a hobby for me. I loved to do it and I did not charge. Something I’d do on my free time. I once I graduated high school, I went to college and majored in psychology. College was my first real break. I still was doing my own hair and my Bestfriend hair as well. I ended up in an abusive relationship, getting kicked out of school, going to jail, and getting pregnant all in three months. After I had my daughter, I tried everything. It wasn’t until my sister Nay encouraged me to start doing frontals and I was nervous but she definitely Convinced me to go further.
I started practicing on her and myself then other people start asking to get their hair done and I started to take it seriously. My Bestfriend convinced me to start selling hair. A couple of months after selling hair it was really slow and I wanted to give up. But God gave me a vision. He gave me a name for my business. “Serving Crowns” I never saw myself doing hair for a living because I didn’t see the purpose and I wanted to do something with purpose. But Serving Crowns has a purpose. I want to encourage other young women, women in general, that they are valuable, worthy, loved, and enough. My slogan is “There is Value in your crown” a lot of people don’t even know they have a crown or that they have value. I didn’t know for a long time but it took me going through what I went through to learn and to see myself how God sees me. And I just want to spread that love. I want other women to know and to be encouraged and feel more than pretty when they get their hair did that’s just extra. I want them to know who they are and to walk into that. God can take any situation and turn it around. I’ve been through so much and I’ve found my purpose in my business and I get to help others. This is more than enough for me.
Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely not smooth, some times my business is super slow. At times people was complaining about the hair when I first started. I had to work with different vendors. Branding myself was a challenge. I didn’t have to much help; I just went step by step. But it gets easier and I learn each step of the way. Every obstacle is a lesson. And I’m growing each day.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Serving Crowns Luxury Hair Extensions story. Tell us more about the business.
Serving Crowns is a hair business. I sell Peruvian, Indian and Cambodian hair. I also sell flat irons, bonnets and edge scarves. I want to grow into so much more. I also do hair installs. I specialize in traditional sewins and frontal installs. I am so proud of the growth in my business. Each day I am getting more clientele and my brand getting known. Serving crowns is all for women’s encouragement! I want it to be more than just hair; I want to grow it into so much more. Serving Crowns is a business built off the strength I’ve gained from the pain I’ve been through. God also lead me each step of the way from the name, the purpose, the design of the logo. I want others to know without God. Serving Crowns would not be here.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
In the next 5-10 years, I see my business growing into so much more than hair. I see myself writing books about entrepreneurship, women encouragement, many different hair products, and having a storefront. I feel like my business will grow so much will be one of the top-selling hair businesses in the US.
