Today we’d like to introduce you to Diezie Sahn.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I remember when I was 6 or 7 years old in Liberia, attending school with my older brother and little sister. We lived in a small community called 12 Houses. One day, in class, our teacher had us put our names in a jar to perform in a school drama play. When she called on me to play the lead role in a Bible story about King Solomon judging a difficult case, I was devastated and filled with fear. I tried to explain to the teacher why I shouldn’t do it, but she insisted. I even asked my mother to talk to the teacher to get me out of it, but my mother said, “No, you’re doing it.”
I was afraid that I would mess up the entire show and embarrass myself. I had experienced a severe stutter when I was younger, which made it challenging for me even to say my name. Now, I can openly say that I’ve freed myself from the fear of stuttering. It’s been about five years since I chose to let go of that fear.
These days, I just laugh a little when I get stuck on a word in the middle of a sentence, but I continue to push through until I get my point across. It’s always funny when that old version of myself sneaks back in. Things are different now, and much better. What was once a source of embarrassment now pulls me toward discomfort, pushing me to conquer feelings I had as a child. If I hadn’t stepped on that stage, I wouldn’t have realized that acting helps me overcome my speech impediment. Speaking fluently on stage brought me joy, and for the first time, it felt like magic.
I remember my family and I went home after my performance, and a vendor on the street noticed us and said, “Hey, you! The kid who performed in King Solomon’s drama! You did well.” That made me so happy. After that day, my love for acting began. I was able to speak effortlessly like the other children or my siblings, if only for that joyful moment in time.
So, when you ask me how I got here today, it’s because of the brave heart of that little boy who was forced to step up when life gave him no options—and he did, executing the mission with a 98 percent success rate, thanks to my mother and teacher’s support.
I am currently living in Atlanta, and I’m not alone.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest challenge will always be yourself. I’ve realized that having an acting dream doesn’t make me an actor; yet. What truly makes me an actor is being on set performing! Over the years, I’ve learned that I have to be more than just an actor; if I want to continue to act. So over the years of creating short films, after short films and other meeting other passionate minds who love the art dearly. together we’ve built a strong relationship. As actor having a team of people who believe in your talent is essential to enhance your acting opportunities and improve your abilities to perform. If you say you love it, make it happen! don’t procrastinate too long.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a film Actor based in Atlanta. Most of my short films are on YouTube; I recently acted in a TV series called “Born Again,” Where I played dual roles. It was a fun experience with Director Jurian Isabelle. You can watch the Series on Tubi. What I am working on at the moment is an ACTION AND ADVENTURE POC Titled March Fall. Its story is set on a scavenger hunt to locate famous African artifacts worldwide and return them to Africa. This story is envisioned as a Series that births a new series, like a trilogy. So, I am excited to begin gearing up to produce a Proof of Concept to get support to make the first Chapter and shop it. We are shaking hands with the stunt groups in Atlanta for the Proof of Concept.
Since this is an independent project with a small budget, I am open to other potential investors, producers, and filmmakers. But I want to be transparent about collaboration on the Proof the opportunity won’t be open for too long. Because I have boots on the ground, making things happen. So, if this message got to you when the opportunity was over, it’s not over! The chance to be a part of The Series is always open, and I am always here to network with other producers and other filmmakers.
I make music, but let’s just say it’s in development. I have music loading. Thank you for reading my story. Much love.
What were you like growing up?
As a child, I wanted to play like other kids and stay out of trouble with my parents.
