Meet Dionna Diane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dionna Diane.

Dionna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I began theatre acting in my hometown, Buffalo, New York. In the first grade, I was in my first theatre play and continued in theatre along with dancing tap, jazz, and ballet. Once I realized that the people in my TV were actors like me, and that I was not watching actual people’s real life’s and situations, I knew that it was exactly what I wanted to do. Soon, I gave up dance completely. I moved to Georgia at eight years old. It took me quite a while to feel comfortable with the transition. Six years to be exact. My freshman year of high school I started taking acting classes and joined my schools drama department.

After graduating high school, I began college. Juggling auditions and college classes became problematic. It seemed as though every time I had an audition to go to, I’d have a test or something in class that day. This drove me to make a decision between school or acting. I chose school after fighting with myself and deciding that I would get back to acting after graduation. Today, I am back acting, writing scripts, directing, and working in production when I can.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road hasn’t been smooth at all. Deciding between school and acting was an extremely hard decision for me. I wasn’t doing what I loved, and this leads me to an extremely deep depression. This depression lasted throughout college. It took me getting back to my creative outlets of film and writing to realize that the abandonment of those things were the cause of my dejection.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an actress, screenwriter, and filmmaker. Most people who film in Atlanta know me for acting and production. I am most proud of my work in different productions like The Best Friend series on Youtube, along with student films like Charade and By Way of Art. I also have a Youtube channel that I plan on getting back to soon.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I think the streaming industry will be even bigger than it is now. I believe that minority-based films will become more mainstream and get more recognition than ever before.

She honestly has such a bright future ahead of her. I’ve been peeping her work for some time and I’m amazed at her intellect with directing and theatrical arts. Definitely expecting to see her name on the big screen!
