Meet DJ Q-Tip

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Q-Tip.

Based in Atlanta, Q broke into the Atlanta DJ scene 20+ years ago, when he began spinning on Greg Street’s 6 o’clock mix show on WVEE’s V103, one of Atlanta’s most popular radio stations. Q then started booking nightclubs, concerts, corporate events, photoshoots and music festivals; rocking crowds with his Open-Format style, which he adopted on his first trip to Las Vegas.

Since then, Q has played for numerous upscale, corporate partners such as Adidas, Dillard’s, W Hotels, the Atlanta Track Club, Malibu Rum Spring Break Tour and many more, as well as celebrity & professional (NFL/NBA/MLB) sporting events. Entertaining masses as large as 5,000 to as intimate as 50, no event is too big or small. Q is the best at reading any crowd and knowing how to adapt on a dime.

You can be sure you’ll hear the best in Open-Format tracks that include 90’s, EDM, Pop, Top 40, Trap, Rock, Hip-Hop, Reggae, 80’s, R&B, 70’s, Dance and much more.

DJ Q-Tip is the true definition of an industry grinder, rising through the ranks by working tirelessly to perfect his craft and gaining the respect of his peers along the way. His dedication and skill paired with his Open-Format, eclectic style is sure to keep any crowd out on the dance floor while making them fans for life as he drops hit after hit.

Has it been a smooth road?
It has absolutely not been a smooth road. In the last 10-15 years, DJing became something that everyone wanted to try and thought they could do. Because of that, it became crucial for me to create a unique identity for myself that would set me apart from everyone else trying to break into the craft. Social media has also created a challenge in that so many DJs are trying to get noticed, that it has become less about skillset and more about who is most marketable.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
As an Open-Format DJ, I specialize in creating sets that incorporate all types of music genres to energize any crowd. From Top 40 to 80’s rock to Hip-Hop to Country, my goal is to always try to give each event-goer a song or genre that they can relate and connect to. I incorporate samples, self-produced edits, acapellas, scratching, and word-play to create a one-of-a-kind experience which each and every event that I am booked for. This foundation is the mainstay to what I believe sets me apart and gives me my own unique identity as a DJ. I am able to read a crowd no matter the event size and find a way to bring everyone together for an amazing experience.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Atlanta has such a diverse population that it allows virtually anyone who has an idea or dream, the opportunity to try and make that dream come true. Atlanta continues to evolve and grow as one of the premier cities in the US to come and truly live out your passions.

Least is definitely the traffic but after being here several years, I’ve gotten used of. Kind of.
