Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ ShMoney.
Hi DJ ShMoney, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I gained a love for both movies and music at an early age due to my family. Movies and music were our two main sources of entertainment and that’s how we bonded. Over the years, my love for music has increased tremendously, by middle school, I knew that I was definitely going to have a career in the music industry. I just didn’t know what exactly I would end up doing in the music industry. In late 2016, me and my childhood best friend (Jamari A. Best) started a rap duo called DoSeLit, but only lasted a few months, because I realized the whole rapping thing wasn’t for me and I didn’t have a lot of dedication towards it. Even though I ended my short-lived rap career, I still knew my calling was something involving music but I didn’t know what.
After that, I found myself taking an interest in DJing because of my Uncle who is a DJ. I loved how he could mix and blend different songs to create a unique sound. From there, my interest in DJing grew more and more. Soon after, I received mentorship by one of the Hottest Female DJs in the world, DJ Suga Shae. She taught me the fundamentals of being a DJ. I began building off what she taught me and DJing became my first love. I started to invest in my craft, learn and practice on a constant basis, and committed to the process of becoming the DJ God wants me to be. I haven’t looked back since, only forward.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, this has not been an easy ride. It has cost me long days and long nights. The things I struggled with the most with DJing and scaling my business were self-confidence, patience, and fear of failing. Throughout my career of being a DJ, it has taught me to fall in love with the process. It has definitely taught me that there is a spiritual side to the business world. As I like to say, “Faith plus action equals success.” Once I started to embrace the spiritual side of my business, it helped me gain a higher level of confidence in my craft. It has also helped me learn to be patient and to take the planning stage seriously. It has lastly taught me that even when you think you are failing, you are progressing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
My business is called DJ ShMoney (DJing services). It is a DJ service based out of Atlanta, GA. I provide entertainment and create great experiences through my craft. I do all events, but my specialties are parties, business/commercial events, and family gatherings. I am most proud that no matter the type of event, I treat every gig like it is my last. What sets me apart from other DJs is that I like to take on events that most DJs overlook. I look at DJing as an art and a way to express myself. I am not afraid to make mistakes and I focus on giving my clients the experience they wish for.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
As of right now I honestly don’t have an answer. Everything in the music industry is a blur for me right now. We have took many losses and faced a lot of tragedy in so such a short time period. All we can do is leave it in GOD’s hands and do our individual parts to bring light to the world through our craft.
