DJ Squirt, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
DJ SQUIRT is a dope radio personality, an actual DJ and the Regional VP of one the largest DJ Coalitions in the world the “Nerve DJs”
I was abandoned on a Cleveland Ohio street corner by my mother & growing up in a group home and foster homes.
During those troubled times music was my refuge, Hip Hop music to be exact. I dreamed of becoming a hip-hop star and I worked very hard to make that dream come true.
In 1988 I was part of the first and now famous Hip-Hop compilation album: “OH10 In Full Effect” out of Cleveland, Ohio. The album initially sold over 40,000 copies from the trunk of a car.
I was later offered a major recording contract, but this contract required me to do things that my morals would not allow me to do.
All my talent and hard work was never taken into consideration. It was this experience that inspired my company. I designed a company that will educate, encourage and empower others to have control of their music careers.
My business includes three global studios: a music production studio, a live TV production studio, a live radio station studio and an intimate classroom all under one roof.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This has not been a smooth road for me Being a woman in this male dominated business is a struggle in its self. I have met with many obstacles and struggles and faith in God along with good intentions have kept me striving.
I am grateful to my big brother John Oscar Horton (DJ Johnny O) the CEO of one of the largest DJ Coalition’s in the world the “NerveDJs” for supported me. He has played a major role in me being able to navigate throughout the music business,
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Urban City Productions – what should we know?
Urban City Productions is designed to empower our youth with real-time experiences. My business aims to encourage our youth to enhance their talents into working for what they love with the intentions of being able to take care of themselves.
Our youth have experienced so many traumatic experiences that have damaged them mentally making it difficult for them the adapt.
Urban City Productions consist of three production studios a business office and an intimate classroom. We offer four 10 week course curriculums (Music production, TV production, Radio Broadcasting and Social Media Marketing.
Upon the successful completion of these courses, the students will work in the studios. Patrons that purchase services such as a live radio interviews, TV, Music production, Marketing and promotion will know they are supporting our youth. At the same time, our youth are learning how to provide satisfactory services and receive payment for their hours worked in the studios
Urban City Productions provides the newest innovations, the intimate knowledge of the music business and real-time experiences.
My company is known for The Hottest Indie Station in the Nation www.urbancityradiostation.com (UCRS) this is not just radio this is an amazing experience. This station caters to independent artists only, providing them with a mainstream feel as independent artist’s. This station has reached 54,634.00 listens in a month worldwide and growing.
I am also known for the Best virtual Video Interviews allowing artist to connect from anywhere in the world.
