Meet Dominick Racano of Shift Drinks Comedy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominick Racano.

Dominick, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been creating content as long as I’ve been acting — twelve years and counting! In 2017, Ken MacLaughlin asked through a Facebook post who would be interested in reading a few scripts for the Decent Humans restaurant sketch comedy series, The Worst Couple, with Leanna Adams. I wanted to be involved in more comedy, and I wait tables as well, so I jumped at the opportunity. Apparently, my suggestions and feedback impressed Leanna and Ken that they asked me to direct the episodes that they wrote and starred in. The series was very successful through the distribution channel of The Bitchy Waiter, a blogger and life-long server in the restaurant industry out of New York City. With this great connection to a large and engaged audience of restaurant employees, Ken wanted to branch out the world, and introduce other comical characters and situations that involve “serverlife”. It would be called Shift Drinks, and I was more than enthusiastic to go on this fun adventure. Throughout the last three years, we have worked and collaborated with many of Atlanta’s finest talent, and when we found Blake Studwell, our director of photography, our production quality went to a whole new level.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
If the road is smooth, you’re probably doing it wrong. It’s the challenges, and the unexpected that keeps everything exciting, and brings about new, and creative ideas to move forward, and grow!

We’d love to hear more about Shift Drinks Comedy.
Shift Drinks Comedy, builds a bridge between customer and service employee, through laughter. Laughter makes us vulnerable, subsequently making us more open to ideas and knowledge. We can all complain, but if we can see where the other person is coming from through a comedic premise, we all win (laugh and learn). My favorite is when someone not in the industry says “thank you for your videos, I now know what not to do when dining out” and vice versa, we want to hold the service industry accountable, and “call them out” in humorous ways, to elevate the industry as a whole, because restaurant employment is most certainly a career!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Oh, wow! Where do I begin?!? So many exciting things are ahead for Shift Drinks Comedy. First, we are hosting the first annual, All The Laughs (ATL) Comedy Awards https://filmfreeway.com/AllTheLaughsComedyAwards to recognize and celebrate other comedic content creators from around the world. We have a lot of fun making comedic content, but nothing compares to the high of when the audience engages and shares the laughs amongst their friends. We want to build that bridge again between the content creators and the consumers of comedy. Secondly, we are actively writing an episodic pilot, and building a pitch deck for Shift Drinks, the series, also reaching out to companies to produce funny branded content for their products and services. We also know other industries also work a “shift”, so we are actively writing and have already built a hospital room set for the nursing industry. Anybody reading this have an airplane we can shoot in?
