Meet Dorothee Rechenberg of Dot Yoga Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dorothee Rechenberg.

Hi Dorothee, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a dance and yoga teacher based in Atlanta. I started out studying dance in France, which led me to teaching and performing in different countries. While I was studying dance in New York, I discovered yoga—and it really clicked with me. Over time, yoga became just as important to me as dance, and I went on to complete a 500-hour training and register with Yoga Alliance.

Now I run Dot Yoga, where I teach gentle yoga to adults and teens, both indoors and outdoors. I’m also offering online classes this summer, with a focus on gentle movements, meditation and breathwork.

Alongside that, I co-founded Intermission Atlanta, where our team bring well-being sessions to workplaces. We design each session to help employees manage stress, learn relaxation tools, and tap into creativity—using simple, science-based practices.

At the core of everything I do is a passion for helping people feel good—more grounded, more joyful, and more connected to themselves.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
At The Dot Yoga, we hold our classes outdoors to offer a gentle yoga experience immersed in nature, allowing participants to connect deeply with the beautiful surroundings of Atlanta. One of the main challenges we face is the weather—rainy days can disrupt our sessions, and securing an indoor space that’s both available and spacious enough can be difficult.

At Intermission, which we launched in January 2025, the biggest challenge so far has been coordinating time with my co-founder, since we’re both involved in other projects. Despite that, we’ve maintained a steady pace and are making great progress together.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Dot Yoga Studio?
I founded Dot Yoga in March 2021 with the goal of making yoga more accessible, inclusive, and community-oriented. We offer gentle yoga classes in Atlanta’s parks, creating a relaxed, welcoming environment—especially for those who may feel intimidated by traditional studio settings. Our classes are tailored with care, taking into consideration each participant’s personal story and needs.

What sets us apart is our strong sense of community. Dot Yoga isn’t just about movement; it’s about connection. We create a space where people can share their stories, support one another, and grow together both physically and mentally.

We now offer a range of classes including Gentle Yoga, Tween and Teen Yoga—leveraging my background as a dance teacher and child movement specialist—and Prenatal Yoga, which we offer online via Zoom. This summer, we’re launching “Summer Splash,” a special Zoom series of gentle yoga classes you can join on the go.

Our brand motto is “Fill up your cup before filling others,” and that guides everything we do. Every session is designed to stretch and strengthen the body while introducing elements of yoga philosophy, meditation, and centering—leaving you both energized and grounded.

Currently, we hold classes at Garden Hills Community Center on Mondays and outdoors in Memorial Park in Peachtree Battle on Fridays. We’re also excited to be launching a Mom & Baby fitness class soon!

Above all, I’m proud of building a brand that nurtures physical well-being and emotional connection in equal measure. Dot Yoga is more than a class—it’s a community.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Atlanta is the balance between its vibrant, dynamic city life and the beautiful natural surroundings. The city is filled with trees and green spaces, and there’s always something to explore, whether it’s in nature or one of the many diverse neighborhoods.

I’ve met so many interesting and welcoming people here, both locals and those from around the world, which makes the community feel truly rich and inspiring. I also really enjoy the local art scene—it’s creative, lively, and constantly evolving. Plus, the food is fantastic! There’s so much variety and quality.

Atlanta is also a great place to raise a family.

If there’s one downside, it’s definitely the traffic: it can be intense at times. But overall, it’s a small trade-off for everything the city offers.
