Meet Doryon McBride of The Real Lash Plug in East Point

Today we’d like to introduce you to Doryon McBride.

Doryon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started doing lashes in 2017, the month of April. It was my second year at GA State (formerly know as Georgia Perimeter). I honestly was just looking for a hustle, never thought it would become a passion. It was hard going to school, working and having a social life at the same time. So one day I decided that I was gonna take a lash class and that decision was the best decision I’ve made. Even though the lash class taught me NOTHING but application, I didn’t give up. I continued to take lash models for free to gain clients.

I continued to do research on lash extensions to gain more knowledge. And I kept up with the latest lash trends. Once I dropped out of college, I knew instantly that this was the industry I wanted to be in. Fast forward to this year! It’s been bumpy ride. between a rock and a hard place, I had to make a choice. It was either MY business or a 9-5. I quit my 9-5 the beginning of September and I haven’t looked back since. I will never regret it, one of the best decisions I have made in my life.

Has it been a smooth road?
Not at all. Being an entrepreneur, especially in this industry, it definitely gets tough. Some of the things that I struggled with was staying motivated and marketing. Those really were the two biggest struggles. Of course, social media is the platform go to nowadays. The first two years of doing lash extensions, I followed a lot of big-time lash professionals. I use to sit back and wonder why my lash extensions didn’t come out like theirs or why my clientele wasn’t as big as theirs. Which made me doubt myself. It put fear in my heart. I had to realize that everyone has their own path and race in life. And that the more that I worried about their business, mine was gonna be stagnate.

Marketing was a big struggle. Not having the tools for marketing, or not being able to collect good content for your platform to grasp clients attention, or just not having the money to promote your self.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta is the money-making city! Even though it’s saturated with lash techs, this is definitely the city to grow your business. Starting your business, I recommend networking! Get out there, sell yourself, meet different people, pass out those business cards. Trust me, Atlanta is smaller than people make it seem. All it takes is for one person, maybe two, to hear about your business and how great you are. Then boom! Clients like clockwork.
