Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Alysa Smith.
Hi Dr. Alysa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a first-generation American from Brooklyn, New York, born to parents from Trinidad and Tobago. My journey into chiropractic care is deeply personal. After finding relief from debilitating headaches through chiropractic adjustments, I knew I had discovered my life’s calling.
Today, I am the proud founder and CEO of Luxe Noir Health, P.C., a progressive chiropractic clinic in Hapeville, GA, where I specialize in personal injury recovery, wellness care, and the Webster technique, designed specifically for pregnant women.
My academic journey began at Virginia State University, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in biology with a concentration in pre-med. This foundation set the stage for my pursuit of a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Life University in Marietta, GA. My time at Life University not only honed my skills but also deepened my passion for holistic wellness.
For the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of practicing in Southwest Atlanta, a community that has become like family to me. My mission is simple yet powerful: to empower my patients, guiding them to take control of their health journey. I believe in the body’s innate ability to heal, and my role is to support and enhance that natural process through chiropractic care.
In addition to running my practice, I am an adjunct clinic professor at Life University, where I have the honor of helping to mold the next generation of chiropractors. This fall, I’m thrilled to join Cohort 6 of the Goldman Sachs One Million Black Women Program, an opportunity that will help me further expand the impact of Luxe Noir Health. My journey is a testament to the power of chiropractic care, and I’m dedicated to continuing this work, one adjustment at a time.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest obstacles I faced along the way was battling imposter syndrome. As a first-generation American and a Black woman in a field that is predominantly white and male, I often felt like I had to prove myself at every step. There were moments when I questioned whether I truly belonged, whether I was capable of succeeding in a profession where I didn’t see many faces like mine. That feeling of being an outsider can be overwhelming, especially when navigating a career that requires so much confidence and certainty. However, these experiences also fueled my determination to excel and to create a space where others who look like me could feel empowered and supported.
Early on, I was torn between becoming an MD or a Doctor of Chiropractic. I knew I wanted to heal and help people, but I wasn’t sure which path was right for me. Ultimately, it felt like chiropractic chose me. The holistic approach to health and the power of the body’s natural ability to heal resonated with me on a deep level. Now, I feel so fulfilled in my practice, knowing that I’m making a tangible difference in my community.
I urge more young Black people who are unsure of what type of doctor they want to be to consider chiropractic. It’s a profession where you can truly connect with your patients and provide care that empowers them to take charge of their health. Overcoming these obstacles has made my journey all the more rewarding, and I’m committed to paving the way for others to follow.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Luxe Noir Health ?
At Luxe Noir Health, we’re redefining what it means to be a healthcare provider. As the founder and CEO of this progressive chiropractic clinic in Hapeville, GA, I’m proud to bring my full, authentic self into every aspect of my practice. I’ve spent my life navigating the balance between being taken seriously as a professional and embracing my quirky, goofy individuality. For too long, I felt as though my humorous nature meant I wasn’t seen as capable or intelligent. But I’ve learned that you can be all of these things—intelligent, organic, funny—and still command respect. We are multidimensional beings, and I want to be part of the movement that shows the world exactly that.
When you step into Luxe Noir Health, I want you to feel important and valued. I’ve created a modern, stylish, and tranquil environment where you can be at peace, knowing that you’re safe, seen, and heard. My goal is for you to leave not only feeling better physically but also knowing that you received top-notch chiropractic care in a space that truly cares about your well-being. Whether you’re here for personal injury recovery, wellness care, or specialized prenatal chiropractic with the Webster technique, you can trust that my team and I are dedicated to empowering you on your health journey. At Luxe Noir Health, your health is in good hands, and your individuality is celebrated.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What I love most about our city is the thriving Black community and the incredible collaboration between businesses and individuals. There’s this amazing energy here—people genuinely want to see each other succeed, and it’s inspiring to be part of that kind of environment. It’s like one big family reunion, where everyone’s cheering you on.
As for what I like least? Well, I wish the traffic wasn’t so, let’s say, *ambitious*. Navigating these roads can feel like an extreme sport! And if I could add one more thing, it would be a beach. Because who doesn’t want to finish a day of adjusting spines with a quick dip in the ocean? A girl can dream!
