Meet Dr. Donaid Seals of Grovetown Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Donaid Seals.

Dr. Seals, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I became interested in wellness, fitness and training in high school. As a youngster, I wasn’t very well or fit so I began lifting weights and training and from there found myself involved in the natural foods and supplements industry. After several years’ involvement in the Southern California natural foods movement, it became apparent that development as a professional in health, fitness and nutrition would happen best by becoming a Chiropractor, as Chiropractors were with us on the vanguard of “alternative medicine”.

While many schools were available, it seemed then that Parker College was the school at which to become best prepared as it was a young school that had been founded by a very successful man who had a great deal of experience and passion in the field.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Interestingly, I think, being in practice turned out to have very little to do with supplements and food products as caring for people and their bodies turned out to be quite a bit of work! The natural foods industry is a volatile and fragmented place (for good and bad) and establishing inventory of the necessary elements wasn’t something one could do while running a medical practice. The prepackaged product lines available to clinicians today, while good, can be constraining (and a bit overpriced); I’ve found myself instead recommending food and supplement care to my patients on an individual basis. A healthy diet and the supplements that help get a person there will always be a personal passion of mine, and we love being able to help our patients find solutions that work for their lifestyle.

When my wife’s military career brought us to Augusta, we made the hard decision to relocate our practice. Closing our doors and leaving behind the community and relationships our clinic had established in South Florida wasn’t easy – but the community of Grovetown has been more accepting and excited about the potential for Chiropractic care than we could ever have imagined. With over three decades of practice behind us, we can’t wait to see what the future holds in a new place with new ways to help provide physical care to everyone we meet.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Grovetown Chiropractic story. Tell us more about the business.
A person that presents for care presents with a disorder. It becomes useful to define these disorders both in terms of the physical, histological presentation sitting on the table as well as the adaptation or maladaptation that has come to manifest itself as this disorder. These things are usually the result of some combination of mechanical, environmental and or behavioral consideration.

In this regard, it’s important to keep in mind that environmental considerations include our diet and the things to which we’re exposed and behavioral issues include vocational and postural as well as the self-management aspects of our own conduct. Always keep in mind this frame of reference allows us to provide service that can be effective and lasting.

Patients repeatedly hear me say that our job isn’t just adjusting you, it’s having you stay adjusted. If we work on a patient and in a week, they have pain again then our efforts at Grovetown Chiropractic were only temporary. That isn’t what we strive for. Our goal is always to help a person live their healthiest life the moment they walk out our clinic doors.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I was lucky enough to have to work against unfavorable genetics to be effective training myself. This forced me to come to an understanding of some of the inherent dynamics of performance – which also turn out to be the elements of healing. It has been good to have had to deal with pain and injury of my own, also greatly improving my vision for the phenomena. I been very blessed to have a wife and children that understand my passion for healing and nutrition and have been supportive of me.
