Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Katherine Igah-Phillips, MD, MHA.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Dr. Igah-Phillips. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Ever since I was in junior high school, I’ve known that I was supposed to be a healer. I began “candy stripping” in the local hospitals in the 8th grade, and shadowing other physicians within my community to affirm this. Then, I began the track to becoming a doctor the only way I knew how to at that time – medical school. I carried a double major and minor from my pre-medicine undergraduate studies into medical school and immediately was unsettled about the curriculum design placing large emphasis on pharmaceutical drugs, invasive procedures and little to no emphasis on any natural and side-effect free interventions.
The main reason I knew natural and side-effect free interventions worked was because I was raised by two brilliant Nigerian parents, within a rich West African culture saturated with medicinal herbs, plants, creams, etc. It bothered me that these other ways of healing were not represented in my curriculum, so upon graduating I began several years of intense training on natural healing modalities, I could couple with my conventional knowledge.
This brings me to where I am today. I now have been blessed with the ability to provide a space for true and authentic healing. A place where you can come knowing that any gaps in your healthcare will be bridged. A place where you will have access to multiple healing modalities, customized to you and what your body needs. A place where your whole self will be considered (mental realm, physical realm, and spiritual realm) rather than just focusing on the physical realm alone. I truly believe that conventional and natural medicines can co-exist so that we can draw from the best of both worlds to grant each patient with the highest quality healing experience and ultimately holistic wellness coupled with an elevation of consciousness.
I am proud to say that my practice, Mind Body Spirit Wellness Center, is this place. My team and I strive to treat each patient as a person, rather than a number or clinical vignette. We dedicate ourselves to delivering excellence from the moment you book an appointment until the moment you check out. I am deeply moved and spiritually fueled by the abundant success stories and positive patient testimonials we receive because all that I do (whether it be directing my team or delivering a presentation at a speaking engagement) is directly aligned with my passion and my purpose for being on this Earth. My mission is to heal as many people as I can before leaving this Earth while championing unconditional love and truth along the way.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road I’ve chosen to take has definitely had its obstacles. One of the biggest challenges I face involves the limiting beliefs many people have around natural healing/complimentary medicine/Integrative Medicine. I get a lot of push back, having to prove efficacy of simple things when very complex things in conventional medicine are just accepted at face value, etc.
From a business aspect, it has also been difficult for me to receive public support and financial backing to expand my practice, scale to have multiple Mind Body Spirit Wellness Center locations, do clinical research, create a pharmacy of products, etc. due to the nature, youth and small size of my business.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Mind Body Spirit Wellness Center – what should we know?
I am the owner and CEO of Mind Body Spirit Wellness Center. MBS Wellness Center is my medical practice, specializing in Integrative Medicine.
What sets us apart from others is our ability to pull from both the conventional and natural realms as needed (drawing the best from both worlds, case-by-case). We are also known for our high-quality and vast variety of natural healing therapies and products (i.e., acupuncture, nutrient IV therapy, bio-identical hormone balancing, medical hypnosis, energy healing, chiropractic adjustments, functional lab testing, nutritional supplements, and herbs, etc.).
I am most proud of the fact that every single service, product, coaching session, team member and wellness event are all 100% aligned with not only the company’s mission and vision, but also with my own individual mission and vision for my life.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
If I have to only choose one characteristic, it would be authenticity.
I feel that a significant portion of my success is directly attributed to my ability to always be my real and true self, without pretension, posturing, or insincerity. I am capable of evaluating every facet of my life and business, making sure that everything done is maintaining alignment with my core values and my purpose.
