Meet Dr. King Imani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. King Imani.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At the age of ten, I started my entrepreneurial journey. With the help of my single mother, I ventured into the beauty industry and started to master my craft by partnering with local professionals, vendors and retailers. I was determined to learn all that I could and become the entrepreneur and professional that I knew I’d become. I watched, listened and learned a lot over the years and I have tried tirelessly To be all that I could to assist others in time and pay it forward.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been easy. The struggles of having doors closed in your face, lack of resources and mentorship are all aspects of my story like many others, I have seen my share of adversity throughout my journey. It has shaped and molded me into the entrepreneur and professional that I am today. With four degrees, a Bachelors, two Masters and now my Doctorate. I feel that the struggles were worth it and all needed parts of my journey because it has made me more resilient.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a General Manager for Clove and Hallow (one of the number one companies in the clean beauty space). I also consult with small business owners and creatives as a consultant. I specialize in nurturing organizational cultures and preparing businesses for scaling. I am most proud of myself for not allowing adversity and trials to stand in the way and get me off track. I am resilient and a chameleon, which helps me adapt effortlessly and that’s what set me apart.

Can you talk about how you think about risk?
Risk is necessary, especially to accomplish one’s dreams, be successful and just exist in this crazy world. You show me one person that says they won’t take a risk and I’ll show them how many times they have by just merely existing in this day in age. I have taken major risk in my lifetime and if you ask my mom and siblings or family members, they’d probably tell you that I’ve always been this way from a very early age. I have picked up and moved across the country several times now to pursue opportunity that not even I knew would fair well or be favorable for myself or my career. I just planned for the worst and hoped for the best.
